Sounds like a problem with the treatment of the leather - easy to forget that just a few months ago it was on the back of a bovine quadraped. The chemicals used are pretty noxious so sound like you may have a problem. Even after two years, my car with nappa hjas that delicious new-car smell when I get in.

Any news
So is it any news in regard to DESIGNO problem?
I'm planing to buy SL55 AMG Designo, so i'm really scared about all what you wrote here.

In fact I'm living in Emirates, where is average temperature is +35celcius all over the year. And humidity is very high.

And now many are on the underside of a bovine dupled.

I read a report from a guy who bought the car with the nappa leather in Houston, TX and in the heat, the glue or something began to melt and the car smelt like car urine. Dealership did nothing for him.

I'd read more about this and get assurances from the dealership in the UAE that this has not been a problem and/or they'll correct it.

This is just too amazing to be true
I got to tell you that I keep reading these posts about this smell in the Designo series and I just can't believe this problem could exist.

I got to tell you I have a much different opinion about how I would handle this problem.

If my car had that smell there would only be one option.

They would have to replace the entire interior or I would go to court and file a law suit. This level of bull **** I would never take from them.

I can't think of any judge that would be sympathetic to their position.

Especially since you could take the judge out to the car and give him a wiff.

You would think MB would have thought, "gee wiz golly gosh fellow engineers, the inside of a car can reach 150F. Lets warm up this piece of meat, i mean leather and see what happens."

I'd go to a court and make them replace the car or the entire interior and make it look brand new.

Look them Inside
Have your dealer, the Mercedes Rep or even the Judge sit locked in the car for a while, unless they have a sinus infection they will more than likely leave the car with a different view than when they got in it.

I too cannot believe such a foul smell is such a problem.

I am going to ask my dealers service department if they ever encountered this and if so what they did. I will post any information I receive.
