To change out the consumer battery on a 2006 sl500 does it have a system to do this so the car does not go crazy?

If by “system” you mean an external battery charger, the answer is No.
There is a proper procedure to replace the consumer battery which includes the steering wheel rotation side to side and windows reset.
search is your friend.

SL350 R230

I recently changed the consumer battery in a 350 r230, no reset procedure required. Just a simple swap out. Disconnecting the negative terminal first

Remove the negative cable first. Then continue to change the battery. Some times you will get a light on the dash. Just open and close the windows once or twice and turn the wheels right and left and that will take care of it.
