Bose amplifier draining the aux battery?

Realized I had a 4.5 amp draw at rest that seems to have been coming from fuse 66 (bose amp / sounds system) & fuse 76 (phone). After leaving both fuses out I still have a small .8 amp draw, it seems like fuse 66 was the main culprit. Is the .8 amp draw at rest normal for the r230s ? Also the stereo did seem to malfunction prior to having this issue with the battery getting drained, is this pretty common? Thanks

BTW my car is an 05 SL65 with 20k miles, I was planning on upgrading the stereo with a new double din, amp, etc. So not too concerned about fixing the amp or head unit that malfunctioned.

50-65 mA was quoted as the normal draw in sleeping mode (which starts after approx 22 minutes). So 800 mA is still out of range.

That possibly wont work, as car may not go to sleep fully with trunk open (though Amplifier might).

Carefully pass test leads out of trunk across seal, and close trunk and lock car as normal, then wait.

800mA is a lot and will flatten a good battery in a few days.

I was running the meter in parallel on the negative terminal. So one leaf was alligator clipped to the cable and then I would just touch the other to the battery terminal. .would be hard to close the trunk with the leads connected. Isn't .05 - .06 pretty standard for any car? The bose amplifier was drawings 4.5 at rest

What you describe is putting your multimeter in series with the electric circuit. Touching the terminal, like that, to the best of my knowledge would be a wake up sign via canbus. No situation for measuring sleep mode draw.

I would have to try to clip it on the terminal & wait for it to go to sleep. Hopefully it can enter sleep mode with trunk open

To fully enter sleep mode, when measuring parasitic drain, you need to lock the car. You cant do that with the trunk open.

However you may get the results you are looking for, as all you are waiting for is the Amplifier to go into sleep mode, which it should do shortly after the head unit is turned off.

Measuring parasitic drain at the battery terminal is not very helpful, as you can not be sure what is causing it.

Better to do it at the fuses, using a amp-meter that connects directly to the fuse terminals.

good point, that would be easier than pulling each fuse and testing at terminal. I'm going to see if I can get both meter terminals on the fuse block
