Cool Will not UNLOCK using keyfob Locks fast 2004SL Have no KeylessGo key

Will not UNLOCK using keyfob Locks fast 2004SL Have no KeylessGo keyCodes:
B1438-12 Stored
The safety time has been exceeded for the following pneumatic branch: Multicontour backrest

B1436-12 Stored
The safety time of the central locking has been exceeded for the following pneumatic branch:Left front door

B1436-15 Stored
The safety time of the central locking has been exceeded for the following pneumatic branch:Right front door

B1438-11 Stored
The air demand is too high. ( Power closing for trunk lid )

B1438-10
Stored&Current
The air demand of the multicontour backrest is too high.

B1436-18 Stored
The safety time of the central locking has been exceeded for the following pneumatic branch:Internal circuit of central locking system

She only occasionally unlocked using the keyfob. Now she will not unlock doors, storage compartments, etc. on that PSE pneumatic circuit at all. I reattached air hoses beneath both seats with no improvement. I don’t know if pushing back in a hard plastic hose will seal it properly. It is a lot of work remove a door panel, and seal the actuator with Flexglue. I pulled the PSE out of its spongy wet pad cover and found no corrosion. I don’t think the keyless go is the culprit. When I exit the car, it gongs and tells me not to forget the key. The interior unlock button does nothing. I turn the glovebox lock key counterclockwise to position 1, clockwise to position 2, remove key, then can temporarily push button and open only the glove box compartment. The other compartments remain locked.

How do I cut to the chase? Do the DTCs/codes point to resealing door actuators? Is there a Multicontour backrest leak, which one, how do I fix?

Hi Guys:

My second 500SL is a gorgeous 2004 AMG sport package Brilliant Silver Metallic can of worms.
Any help you can provide with this worm would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Thom

Best course of action is to clear all codes, then try and unlock door, and see what re-appears.

I would be suspicious of the multicontour backrest code, as it is the only £current alarm.

Not much you can do about fixing them, as the seats contain airbags, which rupture, causing air leaks.

before condemning them, check for damaged air pipe under seats, Common for driver air-pipe to break. Easy repair using some 5mm air pipe to splice the broken pipe section.

You may be able to hear the leak.

Thank you for the advice. Since the seat airbags leak, should I cap off/close the incoming vacuum line? See the picture. I think the white incoming line goes into an elbow with 2 branches. This line was detached from the elbow, and I installed the black rubber coupling.

Certainly as a test, "cap off" the incoming airline (it is not a vacuum line). However you may find it is the incoming air line that is leaking. They often fail under the seat, due to the back and forward movement of the seat, where the airline (and cables) appear out of the carpet.

It is the white plastic hose that goes into the elbow to cap off, right? So, does unlock work on pressure, and lock on vacuum?

Question

I swapped PSEs, and it works properly. I need to replace the impellor and or motor on the old PSE, I think. Are these impellor fins worn down so far they won't work right? See picture

Hi Guys:

Thank you for the help.

Here is a summary of the fix:

I replaced the motor and attached impellor inside the PSE with a used one. To gain easier access, I removed the front compartments below the seats. The incoming white hard plastic pressure hose was disconnected on the driver’s seat. I reconnected it with a rubber vacuum hose coupler from Advance Auto Parts. I capped off a hissing disconnected pressure hose in the passenger seat. I sealed both actuators inside the doors with Flexglue. I disposed of the wet spongy pad that enclosed the PSE. I placed the PSE on top of some pieces of hose above potential water or hydraulic fluid on the trunk floor.

Thanks,
Thom

PSE runs continuously with ignition on ( vacuum pressure pump )

Arrgh… The PSE runs continuously with the ignition on/car is running. Could I have installed the wrong motor? If it runs continuously, won’t it burn out? Note I installed a used motor and attached impellor. The 2 vacuum hoses attached to one end of the motor/impellor were shorter by an inch or two than the original pumps’.

Can I use STAR diagnostics to flash or program a used PSE to function in my car?

Looks like a bad new used PSE…AGREED?????????

I used DAS with the MB STAR C3 to Go to Body->PSE->Control Unit Adaptations and set pressure supply for multi-contour seats to NOT ACTIVE, and back to active; and doors still will not unlock or lock. I did an initial startup transferring settings from the working 2003 500SL PSE with the identical Mercedes part number; and initial startup with manual settings. It still will not lock or unlock. Should I just send it back? At $6-700, I will then need to buy another used PSE.

Is there something else I can try with DAS?

bump

Wish I could be of more help because I am having the same problem as well, locks not working, PSE actions not working on seats either.

First suggestion is to always look under the seats for damaged air lines
Beyond that I would research the DAS codes you had, maybe check the fuses connected to the PSE (I don't know which and where but am sure it is known here on the forum in an old thread)

Thanks for the tips. I removed the seat front storage compartment to easily access vacuum hoses. The white hard plastic hoses were detached on both seats. There are some utube or other videos that show how to repair air lines in seats. Somebody removed the 100+ pound seat. Someone removed the bottom seat cushion. I repaired the door actuators because they fail notoriously. Someone recommended using a Mightyvac to test. He said there is a vacuum or pressure pump available.

Can I just cap off air lines in the seats??? Will the PSE recognize that circuit as pressurized?

The IZV compartments and TD fuel door hoses hold vacuum. The MKL multi-contour hose leaks down slowly. The HECK trunk, VL door left, and VR door right leak almost immediately. The SK seat cushions hose is just connected to an air filter. The 2003 PSE works anyhow.

The new used PSE does not work; and has ports labeled quite differently from the other 2 PSEs. It has always started running for a minute or 2 as soon as power is plugged in. I do not think there is any hope that it will ever work. I tried initial startup with DAS STAR diagnostics to program it to no avail.

See pictures:

Does anyone know what defines a Mercedes seat as multicontour?

I just plugged in a new used PSE 230 800 06 48 today. It works fine on locking door, compartments, and fuel door. It may work on other items. The only problem is after the initial lock cycle, it click’s on and off about 8 times then stops. Is it trying to perform other functions? Do I have to fix all leaks for it to just cycle once? Can I just snip hoses close to the PSE, and cap them off to prevent multiple cycles? Will multiple cycles wear/burn out the PSE?

Later… the PSE clicks about 8 times, waits 10-15 minutes, then clicks 8 more times, then repeats. So I unplugged the power. What can I do the stop the repeat cycles?

I did Initial Startup with automatic takeover of settings of previous control unit. It seems to be operating normally now.

Lessons learned:

The doors would not unlock due to a bad PSE. Leaks in the pneumatic system could have been contributors.

When I bought a new used PSE, I had to do Initial Startup with automatic takeover of settings of previous control unit to program it using DAS. There were still some leaks especially the trunk soft close that did not prevent unlocking.

Unlock is on the pressure function, lock is vacuum. I capped off the passenger seat lumbar seat at a y connector at the leading edge of the seat. Someone had removed the seat back panel, and disconnected the white plastic pressure line there. Remove the storage compartment on the forward edge of the seat bottom to get access to some air lines. I reconnected a pressure line on the driver’s seat but cannot tell if that line and the lumbar support are leaking.

I repaired both door actuators as well as the trunk soft close.
