2005 SL600 - Sport Package or not?

Hey everyone, I need help because I am going crazy with trying to make this decision.

I have a SL600 on order and about 6 more days to change my mind before it gets locked in.

Outside Color - Aegean Blue
Inside Color - All Black
Wheels- Upgraded to the Staggered 18"

All options except the pano roof and so far the AMG Sports package.

Don't know what to do. Part of me says I don't like the sport package because I don't like the black plastic in the back and the wire mesh seems to overbearing on a Aegean Blue car in the front. On a Black car - I'd say it was easy because it would all blend in, including the black plastic.

I don't like the wire mess on the fog lights either when looking up close.

Problem is...when you look far away...it looks OK and everyone on here seems to love the AMG sports package.

How about some feedback from you guys? Let me know your thoughts.

Given my combination....yes or no on the sports package? Remember, I am not necessarily looking for a real sporty look, just what looks better in the overall combination. If I wanted really sporty...I would have gone with Black/black. Problem is if you have even seen the Aegean Blue you fall in love with it because it is an unusual and gorgeous color on a car that has a million of them on the road, mostly black and brilliant silver.

Thanks everyone for your vote.

Opinion

I've seen aegean blue on a standard SL500 and it is beautiful. Honestly, I love the sports package, but the standard body kit fits the aegean blue very nicely. I hadn't thought about it, but the sports package might ruin the look of the aegean blue car. Also, you end up with those cuisinart looking wheels. I'd vote for going with the standard package.

When I ordered my car I had the same delimma. I decided on the sport package when I looked at two aegean blue cars, one with and one without, side by side. The front looks more finished and I like the straight lines on the sides. As for the back, you really don't see the black part on the bumper. I did not like the wheels so I never had them on my car. If you don't get it you will probably wish you did. You can always go with an after market kit later.

Thanks. I see you have an Aegean car so it would be great if you could post several pictures of the front and back. I have never seen the sports package on the Aegean and since you have it your assistance with posting pictures would be really appreciated.

Sl600

I had the same dilemma when I ordered my SL600. I did not order the pano roof because I had it in a SL500 and I could feel our Texas heat through the screening. That SL was a 2003 and I loved the sport package. My reasoning for not ordering it with the 600 was simple. I like the distinctive 600 wheels. Ordering the sport package would have made the car look like a 500/Sport.
I like the comment above. "Cuisinart wheels" v. good!!!
I have made one modification to the 600 since I got it. I put the SL55 taillights in it. They look much better with the smoked lens.

I can't believe you changed the tail lights. That is EXACTLY what I did on my last SL which was a 2003 Brilliant Silver 500 and there is absolutely no comparison. The AMG tail lights are much nicer and I think they are going to be gorgeous with the Aegean Blue.

With respect to the sports package, I ended up ordering the package but what I intend to do is change the wheels out to the 5-Twin Spoke Wheel Multi-piece (STAGGERED). You can see them on the MBUSA website but they don't look that great there. I already have them as I am waiting for my new SL600 to come in and these wheel are gorgeous in person.

My 2003 SL500 did not have the sport package so I went with the sports package this time because I think the front, sides and rear give it a different more sporty look. I do however still love the look without the sport package as well.

Another amusing option is the illuminated door sill. I have them on our G500's. The SL's light is also blue. Valet parkers comment on the sound of the V-12 engine and then they move on to the sills- ha....enjoy!

Funny you should say that. I got them too, only I chose the white because I wanted them to match the color of the gauges. You really can't see the white during the day but they do look good at night.

Did you see the post about the new nose on the SL's. I am going to be pissed if this happens anytime soon.

You can't see the blue sill light during the day either. New Nose: we'd all be peeved. This was predicted by the doomsayers to occur as early as 2005 and fortunately it didn't happen. There has never been such a major change during a model run of the SL. Let's assume that Mercedes won't undermine their loyal customer base by doing this after only three years. People do not like spending $135,000 on a 600 to see it look dated the next year. Let's hope for a 7-9 year run! If you don't want to take the risk, cancel your order and go for the Bentley GT. My younger brother just took delivery on one and it is impressive. The interior is superior to our 600 but of course the top doesn't drop. It will have at least a nine year run.
