2009 SL550 Trunk Stuck Open

Trunk will not close. Just stays stuck open. Disconnected negative terminal on battery to no avail. Removed fuse 54 (PSE controller unit with combined functions) to no avail. Is there anything else i can try to close trunk. Thank You! Okay was able to close manually. Now if opening trunk it stops about a 1/4 of way up, then press again and opens 2/4 then 3/4 and finally fully open. Closes same way, stopping a 1/4 way down increments. Struts recently replaced OEM few months back. Lubricated all pertinent joints. Could it be the handle, keeping in mind it operates same with fob? Thanks!

Had exactly the same happen to me, drove me absolutely nuts!
Then checked all the cables going to the trunk lock, and found one going to the micro-switches in the lock assembly, somehow it detects when the lock is fully closed and when not, as the lid was going
up the cable came disconnected for a fraction and stopped the lid up movement (hydraulic lid...), after removing the connector and re-seating everything works fine again....

...what made this tricky for me was that there is a hydraulic pump, the hydraulic struts for the automated trunk lid opening, the microswitches in the lock assembly...I couldn't figure out why the lid would always start moving upwards, but then stop at varies lid angles, then
move again - and stop, when pulling the handle to initiate closing/opening...

Agreed. I replaced the trunk struts and lubricated all joints to no avail lol.

... then it feels great once you fixed it, darn German over-engineering, we are old I get it but I could still lift that lid with my hands, and eliminate the hydraulic cylinders for the lid movement, LOL

Can you just pull the trunk down like a manual one? I've never tried, always too worried I would break something.

….sure you can but then you still won’t be able to open up the roof… it’s all connected… if you get the open trunk lid signal while the roof opens the motion will stop….

Well, I was just more curious if someone went to close the trunk manually, without using the button. Not if the trunk was broken. Like if someone didn't know it was auto close and went to pull it down anyway.
