Driver Side seat switch loose

2003 SL500

Went to pick up my car today from a body shop that repaired my bumper and noticed my switch for the power seats is loose. They denied any wrong doing (of course) but my guess is that they pressed the buttons to hard when they were adjusting the seat to drive the car in/out the bay and broke it. The switches work fine but it has fallen out of place on the panel. SMH

So my question is- has anyone replaced/repaired this before? What's holding in this switch? A bolt? A clip?

I found instructions on how to remove the door panel but trying to be proactive and figure out what I'm getting myself into

From memory it is attached to the door frame, not the trim, and stays on the door with the trim off.

Remove the trim which is easy enough, then you can se how to glue it back up with Gorilla Glue or similar, like Crazy Glue and baking soda.

It mounts on some plastic posts on the door panel. You might be able to epoxy them back together, but I use 3d printed replacements that epoxy over the stubs. Pretty common issue, I wouldn't put too much blame on the shop.

All 4 posts were broke. The switch was hanging off the back. How all 4 broke at the same time, I don't know.

I was thinking of drilling the switch back into place but there's not enough room at the bottom of the post for the screw to catch- it will end up coming through the door. So I went ahead and just drenched each post with epoxy. After 45 minutes, all is well. For now at least. Need to be careful on how hard I press the seat switches- not that I adjust them that much anyway. Once I set the correct adjustment, I never touch it again. Just need to warn anyone else that jumps in the car to be careful pressing the buttons.

My other fear is the actual part going bad and than having to struggle to get it off the door with all that epoxy holding it in place. what a disaster. fingers crossed

Another one to be really careful of is the window switches. They are light and delicate and break easily. Ask me how I know...

Speaking of breaking things, the small plastic piece on the back of the "little triangle" on the corner of the door broke off. I knew that was going to happen. Apparently it snaps into a small white bracket that came off when I pulled the "triangle" off. When I tried to remove the piece, snap!

For now it's being held in with a small amount of duck tape on the back. Not going to worry about it for now

Corner triangle

That little corner piece is a bugger. And expensive. The white clip is cheap.

Yea- it's on ebay used for $50+

It's staying in place for now. Not going to worry about it.

Did you create the 3d print replacements or did you purchase them? Was curious if would be willing to share the STL if you created them.

Would you be open to share the 3D print design? Looking to fix this on mine as well
