Aftermarket Steering Wheels
I'm looking to change the steering wheel and don't need paddles. Most of the thicker sport steering wheels seem to come from Eastern block EU or China. Which is OK but buying online like a wheel can turn into a bait and switch nightmare.
Anyone attest to the level of materials and finish bought one in the last 6-9 months?
Thanks for any replies

Dont forget it can be easier and cheaper to have your original wheel refurbished.
Can get it flat bottomed, extra padding and contouring, and a multitude of materials and finishes. Plus you know it will fit and work. Cost is around $300

I looked at the MeinLenkrad steering wheels. Very nice.
However until I get a return (English interpertation - my German is poor) in person contact I'm not sure what/how my cost would be and troubles of International customs but this might be very promising
My steering wheel is still in good condition so I'd rather not have it resurfaced here in the U.S unless I can be assured a "reputable" shop is the same or higher quality
The worst part about having a wheel recovered here is the cheesy quality of the leather used and the only two I personally have seen the leather was not a good tight fit

This is the place I used (in the UK) to get my SLK wheel refurbished, with nappa leather and additional padding.
Quality of work is excellent.
Not as much choice as the German company but communicate in English.
What I did was purchase a cheap 2nd wheel before sending mine away, so I could still drive the car. When I sold the car I kept the refurbished wheel.

For my 2003 SL55 AMG, the top part of the steering wheel seemed hard and not padded enough, so I wanted something with more padding. Got a wheel in 100% MINT condition from a 2007 E55 AMG, it is like totally brand new, with zero evidence of any wear on it whatsoever; and all the buttons, horn, etc, carry over from my original wheel and it looks 100% stock original, except a much nicer wheel. Cost $400 on Fleabay. While I was at it, I added aluminum shift paddles to replace the buttons, and upgraded the transmission control unit so that now, the shift paddles are "live" 100% of the time and activate whether in Sport mode, Comfort mode, or Manual mode. (Before, they were only operational in Manual mode). I love the setup and of course, the car is absolutely wonderful. I don't use the shift paddles as often as I thought I might; the car is so ridiculously fast (M113K engine LoL) that all you do is step on the gas for a few seconds, and you're in triple digit MPH's. But, it can be a showoff tool if ever an unsuspecting person comes along for a ride. Ha. The TCU and paddles cost about $600 so the total cost was just about a grand, but just for the wheel swap alone you could spend around 4 bills. Easy to remove and replace. There's a guy on here, Chris (Latemodel21) he's also on Benz world, he supplies the TCU and paddles, and sometimes he has aftermarket wheels that are SUPER nice as well. He's great about giving advice if you ask.
Before, original 2003 SL55AMG Wheel
After, 07 E55AMG Wheel with shift paddles

Hi Chris, Happy Holidays. That wheel looks nice... My Maserati has a carbon fiber steering wheel, it's really beautiful. I think it's the first one I had ever owned that is carbon fiber. OOPS, sorry about putting a Maserati pic in a Mercedes forum! LoL
