Keyless-Go not working

I recently purchased a 2009 SL550 Silver Arrow Edition. The car is in fine shape, but the Keyless-Go doesn't work. Does anyone have a diagnosis procedure for determining the problem? Both of my key fobs work fine for remote locking and unlocking.

I have replaced the batteries in both key fobs with no effect.

I've checked fuse 58 and it's fine.

I'm about to purchase a relay to check relays B and C, as one document I saw indicates that they are related to Keyless-Go.

If the problem turns out to be the Keyless-Go module, does anyone know where it is located?

Any help would be appreciated.

Step one is to make sure that you have keyless go keys. Many keyless go equipped cars are on key 5 or 6 and because of cost, the replacements are std. keys, not keyless go.

I was confused when I got my first Benz in the same way. It may not be the same for you. But I was personally used to spamming the lock button when I lock my cars. Double tapping lock is a feature that DISABLES keyless go. So make sure you're only pressing lock once when you lock it. Then see if keyless go works. Once you've driven Benz for so long you eventually learn to not spam the lock button like most people would with other cars.

How does one determine if they are Keyless-Go key fobs?

Open like you are going to change the battery and see if there is an FCC ID. We can use that to see which version you have. If it doesn't have an FCC ID, it is probably an aftermarket (non-keyless go) key.

The keys do appear to be original Mercedes keys manufactured by Siemens. I have two and they both have the same FCC ID number:

FCC ID:KR55WK49046

Does that help?

That is a Keyless Go key.

If you have a Mercedes specific scan tool, it should have numerous tests for Keyless Go. The first one is to locate your key on the center console. If it doesn't find it there, you have some issue with the system (key, module, antenna, etc.).

The module is under the left side trunk paneling. I have seen them get water damaged. Even though it should be a 'dry' area, any leak would run directly into the case and pool at the bottom. Not a great design in that regard.

That's good. Thanks for checking.

Does one need a scan tool to see if the key is registered to the car on the center console? I do have a ThinkDiag, which can do an amazing number of things on my 2017 Porsche 911, perhaps I will try that.

I might also see if I can take a look at that module and see if it shows any signs of corrosion.

Thanks for your help.
