I have a printer and was doing similar. The issue is the 3d scanners don't work so well ... Does anyone know where one could find the mech drawings for the parts? That could be converted to STL.
I've played around with 3D printing using a Qidi Max-Plus printer (about $1000 when I bought it). I use a design tool OpenSCAD, which is script-based. Instead of designing objects in 3D as with AutoCAD, shapes are defined geometrically, and merged or subtracted to create more complex objects, and then it generates STL files. Easy to use unless you're already AutoCAD proficient.
Much of what you can do with a 3D printer involves optimizing the printer's operational settings -- temperature, speed, density, etc., and it can take many hours of experimentation to find what works best for a particular part.
I designed and printed the MB star and attached it to an aftermarket wheel cover shown here. Unfortunately, I can't share the STL files because the MB logo is trademarked.

Yes, a lot of members use 3D printing for this. Check sites like Thingiverse, Printables, and Cults3D for existing files, and if you can’t find your part, you can model it yourself or have someone do it. For car parts, PETG or ABS is better than PLA because they handle heat and stress better.
