I recently acquired a 2003 SL55 AMG. Great deal for a great car. Parts Geek has an acceleration sensor listed as a Accelerator Pedal Sensor. The dealer says it can only be purchased as part of the Accelerator Pedal Assembly. Anyone know of a source for an accelerator pedal sensor?

Thanks,

I just went to ebay and entered "2003 AMG SL55 accelerator pedal sensor" and found what I think you want brand new for around $145.

It’s the whole assembly, not just the sensor. You have to buy the pedal

What you found is actually an Acceleration Sensor. This is a mistake in the global parts catalogue. I chatted with the Parts Geek rep about this and finally convinced him they were selling the wrong part as a Pedal Sensor.

Oops, yeah they look just like the acceleration sensor sitting on the front fenders.

If the part number you need is 2303000104, the entire pedal assembly with what appears to be a sensor with wiring is available on ebay for $65. It is listed for 2003 SL55. Some of rough looking, but you could then just remove the sensor.

There’s 2 different pedals as well, one for early cars and one for later cars.

I got a pedal from a junkyard and tried to remove the sensor to no avail. Besides a couple of small screws it is glued with a tough holding compound. Probably will break it in trying to separate. As I explained in another thread, I got some issues and thought it was the throttle pedal sensor, but after gathering some info found out is is a Hall sensos that will last forever. You cannot test it with an ohm meter. Have to use 5VDC input, grounds and measure the output range. If it is to spec, just find the issue elsewhere!

When my pedals went bad, it wasn’t the sensor, it was the plastic stop that mushroomed allowing to extend past its parameter limit and putting it in limp mode.

I have replaced accelerator pedals on 2 cars, bought them used from ebay, problem solved. You might want to believe the dealer. The sensor is not serviceable.
