Still running my old Beltronics RX65s, but looking into moving on to the Uniden R4. A friend of mine has the R4 along with a R7 and they are fantastic detectors.

+1 on the Uniden R7.

The R4 is also solid, but being a long-time Valentine 1 user before switching to Uniden, the directional arrows are a must for me.

Uniden's GPS database with regular updates for speed traps / cameras plus an extensive ability to configure it to tune out false alerts / bands not used by LE in your area make it an excellent option on the market.

For laser, the only real protection is a jammer, which needs to be hard-wired to your car (assuming the device is legal in your state).

I haven't had a speeding ticket in over 20 years. I got enough to get my license revoked in my younger days. In traffic school, a California motorcycle cop advised to keep your head on a swivel. Be aware of the extended bubble surrounding your car. You should be able to identify most police vehicles around you, and potentially dangerous situations. Awareness of your surroundings is like your own radar system. Avoid the fixed stare, such as a view of a beautiful woman, traffic accident, wonderful view, navigation system, cell phone, etc... snap out of it when you become aware of your own behavior.

Know the front and rears of Dodge Chargers, and whatever vehicles cops use. At night, taillights are easy to recognize. Dual exhausts, driver's side spot lights, blue lights inside the car, roof racks are indicators. Aftermarket badges, stickers, window tint are usually indicators of not cops.

Don't speed in the middle/passing lane. That is the lane for most tickets.

In an emergency, when changing lanes frequently, it is typically unsafe, but don't give yourself away with frequent turn signals.

Let someone speed way out in front of you first.

When speeding, keep a car or two between you and line of sight to potential speed traps.

For God's and all of our sakes, drive safely and courteously. In most places you can avoid tickets by driving no more than 7 MPH over the speed limit.

I absolutely agree with @aegea , especially staying out of the passing lane and being only the 2nd fastest car on the road by following a pace car.
In 52 years of driving, I've only had 3 speeding tickets, one in Canada, and 4 tickets total. My first car as a teenager was a 3 year old Chevelle SS 454, and I never got a speeding ticket in that. One speeding ticket on a local road two weeks before they raised the speed limit. ;(
I never exceed the speed limit by more than 7MPH in the city where things are very unpredictable.
Always ask yourself, why am I speeding? It is less stressful and tiring not to speed much more than the rest of traffic.
I started road course racing in 1985; that took care of my thrill for speed and made me a much calmer street driver. You quickly understand that the thrill you get on a racetrack cannot be replicated on the street. If this might interest you, search for the track events with your nearest BMW club. I say BMW, because they welcome all brands of cars, Porsche and Corvette clubs less so.
Most importantly, just be safe, nor only for your own sake, but for the sake of your family.

Agreed on Waze. While their routing is sometimes odd, the P2P reporting of numerous elements that impact traffic patterns is excellent both in concept and practice.

Even when not using it for directions, I have Wave open for this.

I haven't used my radar detector in quite a while; I've honestly forgotten about it. Back in the day I purchased a radar detector that scrambled the laser signal, from a Danish company called Blinder. (www.blinder.dk) Nowadays they provide small "pucks" that you mount hidden behind your grille, usually 2 in the front and 2 in the rear, along with a switch inside the vehicle so you can manually turn them on and off. The idea is that if a cop shoots at your car, it will scramble the signal back to the speed gun, and meanwhile beep inside your car. And then before the policeman has time to shoot at your vehicle again, you have had time to hit the brakes and turn off the scrambler. I haven't had a chance to try out that scenario though..
