Mars red, anyone?

Getting ready to order a new sl500 for spring delivery and wondered if anyone had any pictures of their car in Mars red with stone interior to view. Dealer doesn't have any to look at right now. Thanks in advance.

There a two cars available in Mars red, I believe from the same person, on e-Bay motors. You can check them out, or better off, buy one and don't wait for your car.

Anyway, here is the link:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...&category=6338

Here is a link to the other one but it is Firemist Red.

Let me know how you do.

I like Firemist Red, but that is the best mars red pic that I have seen.

Tigger,

The first one expecially looks like Firemist Red. Are you sure it is Mars Red?

Red doesn't really do it for me on an SL.

I agree, 10 years or more ago, Guards Red for Porsche and Rosso Corsa for Ferrari were their most common colours, not now. I don't think red has ever suited an SL though it's better than white...

My thoughts would be if you love the color red, which I do, go for the black or brilliant silver with the berry red interior. Now either of those cars is really hot.

On the final thought about Mars red, I am not sure that this is totally horrible if you wanted to be different but I believe that the Firemist may be the better color. I can tell you the stone interior is gorgeous with the Chestnut wood.

Just some thoughts. You should buy the car you love and I am sure it will be gorgeous.

A dealer near me has a Mars Red 500 on the floor. Very sharp. Not my first choice, but still very sharp.

I believe that the "2005 SL Class book" has a picure of mars red about 4 or 5 pages in. Its an over the top view.

Now thats a Red car, Mars red with Berry Red interior.

Also, when looking at those pictures I find the following very funny, or shall I say...well, you make your own judgement.

The person that posted these pictures is showing on the rear trunk an SL500 AMG but:

No quad exhausts
No AMG tail lights
No black Alcantara covering to the Instrument cluster which all AMG's have.

Actually if you look at view 216, there is not AMG emblem, if you look at view 252, all of a sudden, there is an AMG emblem. Is somebody being a bad boy?

Anybody got any thoughts here?

Boxman asked your salesman who has mars red in your area and let them setup a meeting to see the car. Pictures really do not do justice for the colors. My salesman was so nice to us. He let us know when a certain color was in the shop for service and let us know which dealership in the Mid South area had the colors that we waited to see. We took a lot of road trips to see colors of SL R230s.

My last resort was going to Stuttgart to look at the colors, but wife decided on her color.

Well, count me in the minority. I drive a '03 Firemist Red and absolutely love it. I must say my first preference was black, but prior experience taught me how difficult it was to maintain the finish to look scratch free. The red has some minor scratches (only hand washed) and it still looks good. Also, there are so many black SL's that the red really stands out.

Go for the color that you like best.

Hey, I am not giving up on the Firemist Red. I do like that color. What color is your interior. Black or Stone I presume?

Looking at the pics on the Ebay link, i think the SL looks great from the back, the tail lights blend in well and give a more agressive look.
However from the front red doesn't seem to work. Just an opinion, am sure on the road it will look fab.

Thats why we have 31 flavors of ice cream, because everyone likes something different. We all have opinions, but the bottom line is get what you like. I know of a lady in our MBCA club that wants to paint her SL500 pink.

The best way to pick the colors is to see the color on the car in different light conditions. For example, wife wanted Diamond Silver but in certain light conditions, it look like her worst color.

Well..red also went well with the old school SL due to the shape...but with all the curves on the one...mars just doesn't cut it.

Lovin - I have the stone interior. The colors match very well but boy is the carpet hard to keep clean (esp. in PA). After two years I would still make the same choice.

last car i had was light cream interior. nice light feel when you get inside.
after 3-4 years the interior starts to look aged, you just can't get it clean
Now have an sl500 charcoal grey, dark interior is a nice change.

Mars Red

We just got our '05 Mars over stone and chestnut with all options except heated steering wheel several days ago. I'll upload a pic tomorrow. The one I have is too big. I heard all the stories about resale, but I don't give a damn. The color is great--particularly with the stone interior. You may have problems keeping it clean, but most MB dealers will do that for you.

I ust see way too many black or gray or silver or pewter cars. The put me too sleep. We also have an '05 launch edition that we bought just for the color. Get the red and never look back.

A close second is Firemist. It's beautiful over stone. There was one @ Fletcher Jones the day we took delivery, but it had no pano roof.

Hey Widecat, looking forward to seeing your pictures. Like you, silver and pewter blend right in with everyone else. I've only seen two Mars red up close, and wow, they look great. The various pictures here and on Ebay just don't do any justice.
