Question Rear side window blows fuse 62 clicking in fuse box area why?

Rear side window blows fuse 62 clicking in fuse box area why?

Why do I keep blowing fuse 62 on my left rear side when I push the window switch during the second sequence for the rear window? I get 6 or 8 rapid clicks emanating from the fuse box area behind the passenger seat after the fuse is blown. That sounds like a relay. 2004 500SL

You most likely have a bad window regulator, possibly a bad motor or wiring short. The rear windows are controlled by the roof module and supply power is fed through fuses 62 and 63, IIRC. The RVC control will have internal relays to actuate the window motors. Probably an up relay and a down relay like the door modules have for the front windows.

Thanks Mike,

I replaced the window regulator with motor assembly A2306700103 with a salvaged assembly about a year ago. Do you think there could be a pinched wire or wiring fault? When the regulator/motor goes bad can it short?

Unfortunately, the vario roof will not open completely because of the window failure. I need the top down to remove the leather-like covered interior panel above the assembly. It is a real pain to get to the assembly, much less to replace it.

I ordered a door window switch because some plastic has broken so the left switch will fall off when lifted. That left switch worked fine when you held it in place before the recent window failure.I doubt the switch is the culprit don’t you. That is another pain in the butt project to replace. You remove and partially disassemble the door panel to replace the window switch. If you haven’t already, you need to glue some door fasteners plus back into place, and replace some fasteners.

I replaced the window switch, and am still blowing the window fuse. I plugged in an old faulty window assembly that I don’t recall blowing fuses. (My memory may be wrong on it not blowing fuses.) When I activate the rear window switch the roof module computer still clicks a relay like before, and the window fuse blows. Can I fix it by replacing the window regulator assembly??? Is the roof control RVC module bad????

I just replaced the window assembly with a good assembly. The fuse still blows. Since the regulator is in the assembly, I don't think it is the regulator, or the good looking wiring. Can it be the RVC roof control module? The rapid clicking about 8 times points to the RVC MODULE, right?

Glad you figured it out. Where is the "roof control Module"? Part number? Find it on ebay?

Thank you for the additional info.
You mistyped one digit, it is actually 2308201626.
Since I didn’t yet have this module as a spare, I just ordered one on eBay for $70.

I did see a menu selection in DAS in STAR diagnostic to do something like initial setup or installation of the RVC module. It has a method for using the old module to setup the replacement module. So you may need to use your existing module to initialize a replacement. There is probably some installed equipment that can be variable. Both of my modules had the identical numbers, and I did not need to break out the Mercedes shop equipment to setup the replacement.

Fault code B1402-001 Left rear window relay on circuit 30 may indicate a fault in the RVC roof control module 2308201626 which caused fuse 62 to blow. I saw this DTC fault after fuse 62 kept blowing. I erased it and the DTC did not reappear. I replaced the RVC roof control module and solved the problem.

Blowing fuse 62 repeatedly when operating the left rear window switch usually indicates a short circuit or a stuck window motor drawing excessive current. The clicking you hear from the fuse box area is likely the relay trying to engage but shutting off due to the blown fuse. Common causes include a faulty window motor, damaged wiring or a short in the switch. Inspect the wiring harness and window motor for damage or corrosion, and consider testing or replacing the window motor or switch to fix the issue.

Thanks... It turns out that it was the RVC or roof control module, which I replaced. The relay for that window is inside the module.
