Break in period
I am getting my new SL600 next week. I know you are not suppose to go over 85 miles per hour and over 4500 RPM's.
The question is: For how long do you do this for?
Any help would be appreciated.

2005 SL 500
It's almost time!
So far, I have 1300 hundred miles on my SL. For the first thousand miles, I was very concious to drive the car at different engine speeds (RPMs) while not exceeding 4000 RPMs. From 1000-1500 I am doing same and also taking the car on short sprints not to exceed 5000 RPMs (not yet flooring it). After 1500, I will work it out a little but still for the most part drive it gently.
By doing this, I have noticed that the engine has sounded smoother and smoother as I have progressed and gear changes are like butter. Additionally, I have had a 7% increase in fuel efficiency from my first tank of gas. Overall, I am extremely happy with the increasing efficiency of the car as I have gone through my car's break in period.
Hope this helps and congrats in advance on your new SL 600!

Hmmm. . . .I must've missed the instruction about the break-in period; however, if you find it difficult to wait for the breaking schedule to pass, I'd like to offer you (for a small fee of course) the opportunity to let me break your SL600 in for you. That way, I'll be the one suffering at stoplights resisiting every challenger who comes along. All you have to do is buy gas and tires and I'll take care of the rest. I promise to drive it everyday and get it back to you ASAP well broken in after 1000 miles.

Thanks for all your help and advise.
Dealer spoke with the VPC today. On Monday they are getting my car by rail and 1000 cars are coming in by boat.
Alot of begging going on. Can you imagine if you are on the wrong side of that 1000 cars how long you can be waiting for your car.
My Dealer knows where I stand. They have already put in 2 calls to the top guy at the VPC who says at the latest, at the Dealer sometime Thursday.
That does not work in this camp! For starters my mechanic is on vacation and scheduled to come in special on Wednesday. Somebody needs to work a little more.
