Keyless go w/ Vario roof

In deciding on SL55 options, I'm sort of torn about this keyless go. I understand that you can't open the roof with the system, only with the key, which is a feature I love abou tte M5 (albeit only the windows/sunroof).

With that consideration, are people ordering the keyless go? I'm debating it, but this is a major drawback, especially in the "cool" factor.

With keyless go, you can still use the key/remote to open the roof.

Kinda defeats the purpose of the option, though, as you still need to carry the key.

I *really* came close to ordering keyless go, as it's pretty cool to be able to just jump in the car and push a button...but decided against it. Only part of it was the roof. The big thing is that my wallet is already full of junk--receipts, "frequent buyer cards", atm, credit, gym, and the keyless go card would take up several credit cards worth of space. Also, I worry about the durability and replacement cost of those little suckers.

Still, I love the idea...

Talking

It is a great feature, I will order it on any new Benz in the future. You can still operate the roof, but you need to use the regular key to do it, for saftey you must push and point the key at the door.

It is just a fantastic option!!!!! It is well worth the money, and has no downside.

I ordered keyless go, why ?

(1) I like lots of gadgets
(2) If I ever get car jacked, then I can just give them the car, and off they go. When they switch off the engine later, they dont have the keys any more, so cant go any further !

As you can plainly see, (2) was the excuse to my wife for (1)

I didn't realize how big it is. My wallet is very slim (some low-profile mont blanc deal) and won't be able to hold it, meaning it will be a thick card in my pocket. Dimenstionally, a key will end up being advantageous.

But the gadget factor is drawing me back!

Keyless No Go

I was surprised to read an article recently promoting Keyless Go as one of those options that would enhance resale value. The premise was that "all luxury cars" will have a version of it in a few years and its absence will be a negative. Regardless, I had a hard time finding a compelling reason to add it to my option list as I too was disappointed that it would not open the roof. I too suffer from the too thick wallet syndrome (plastic, not bills).

I will definately be ordering this option on my next Benz & I think that Richard has a valid point. If you are carjacked (hope this doesn't happen) when the criminals get a few yards away from you they will be S@!T out of luck!

Somehow I don't see it as a very good theft deterrent. Not primarily, anyways.

I not suggesting that this will eliminate Lo-Jack, but every little advantage we have is better than nothing at all!!!

Mark: good point. I'll see if I can get some definite answers. Maybe Robert can help?

Get it. Why not? I love the start/stop button on the gearknob. Not that I'm going to have my hands full of groceries where I can't reach the key, but I'll probably have my hands full of parts for my car and can't reach for my key I too love gadgets and the cool-factor here is very high! At this level, practicality goes out the window!

That does not work just tried it. but you can use the old fashion key and point it at the sensor and that still works

You must point the key at the door sensor for saftey and continue to point and aim or it stops working, just like closing the windows with the key

I don't care if it operates the roof or not! I want it. It's just way too cool to not have it! But then, I'm a nut for as many gadgets as I can possibly get.
