2003 SL500 Phone Question
Hello everyone!
I tried doing a search but i cannot come up with a def. answer. I have a 2003 SL500 and it came with the phone kit and a Motorolla V60. How do i find out what service it uses so i can connect it and start using it? I was told that there are digital and analog phones also... if i have analog, can i simply get a digital phone and have it work fine?
Is there a bluetooth upgrade i can put in my car so i dont have to use the V60?
Any help would be much appreciated.

You can try to enter 74663#<menu><menu>, if that gives you a menu of NAM1/NAM2 then you have a CDMA phone for Verizon. Otherwise you have a TDMA phone for AT&T/Cingular/whatever you may have where you live.
All V60 phones for 2003 that are from Mercedes are digital/analog.
There is no Bluetooth upgrade for your car so that you can use a different phone. You can however get a newer phone system installed in your car, but only someone who offers this service in your area (i.e. NOT the dealership) will do such a thing.

You may have a problem activating your phone if it is TDMA. Cingular in my area is not accepting TDMA phones. I found out the hard way after I got my phone installed that Cingular would not accept it. So I had to replace my phone with the V60S and got me a Verizon plan.
If you have a good dealer, and they will work with you on a non-MB phone, I would recommend a UHI phone kit from MBenzNL. I believe it is the best way to go at this moment. www.mikbox has a good solution that will work with your current PSE to allow you to use a V600 or V710. Of the 4 dealers in my 200-mile radius, the dealer that is 200 miles away will support my warranty work on the command system if I got the mikbox solution. I do know there will be a blue tooth PSE coming out in March that will work in your car from WWW.EISKITS.COM. That PSE will be around $950 bucks.

I am waiting for something to let me bluetooth retrofit my dads car.
He just canceled his Cingular service (not because of them) and go T-Mobile because our LS430 has bluetooth and he wanted a bluetooth phone.
Honestly, all I can say is screw Mercedes for trying to deviate from the standard practice of actually giving consumers the right thing.

It's not really about that, I have t-mobile, my mom does, and my sister. So that kinda influenced him as well.
By switching plans, we got 50$ by getting the SonyEricsson T610 which is a bluetooth phone. That phone doesn't work in the Mercedes. And what I was told, I can't get the v60 to work on T-Mobile without buying another phone.
I just spit out information in my head, sorry if it wasn't coherent.
