Any Discovered Neat Features????

I was curious what features people have discovered on their new SL's that they didn't know about. I know I have stumbled across some features in the past purely by accident. Anyone discover anything they felt was good?

Other than the new COMMAND unit, from what I can see they have deleted features.

I don't know if you would call it a new feature, but the mid-to-late 04 and 05s have Ceramiclear Nanotech paint as opposed to the regular paint for older models. The paint has an unmistakeably better appearance and it is very hard to scratch, swirl and streak. I parked my car next to another very clean brilliant silver 03/04 SL and it was extremely clear that the paints were different.

Previously, before I received my car, I never heard of Ceramiclear Nanotech paint. However, I'd have to say that its probably the most substantial change to the SL. Nothing like being pleasantly surprised when you are not expecting it. Do a google seach on Ceramiclear and you can find out more about it. Very impressive.

Actually, my SL was assembled September 03 and has Ceramiclear. It's a great paint!

How can you tell if the car has the Nanotech paint? My car is also 9/03 build.

Angry

Sorry for being a dumb a$$- asked the question before doing a search. Looks like I have a C before my paint code as well. Stone chips are a major pet peeve of mine. It seemed as though you could just breath on my 540i and the paint would chip.

Just check the C on your door pillar, if you have it, you got the ceramic, if you don't have the C, you don't have it.

My dad doesn't have it

I assume we are talking about the C before the paint code? Please confirm?

It is on a label.

On mine it says 040 (notice the lact of a C) because 040 is my paint color code on the door jam.

If I had 040C then that would mean i have black with the ceramic paint.

Ceramic clearcoat paint just means it's more efficent towards scratches.

With mine, the C is before the code. It says C946.

OOPS! Yeah you're right, it'll be in front of the three digit code.

Now, without even remembering your car (okay I do) I can tell you that your car is Aegean Blue, Metallic.

Okay, I just googled Mercedes 946 and got to..

http://www.intellichoice.com/reports...ction/packages

But that'll show you the color codes and their corressponding colors.

This isn't SL-specific, but I have new SL and tried a tip on this forum to copy all of my MP3 music files onto one DVD and then play in the single CD slot. This works great and is even better than an iPod because the song names are displayed in the dash, songs can be changed via steering wheel, etc. A DVD can hold something like 1,000 songs, and if you put them in folders, these come across as playlists on the Nav screen. I can post pictures and more details if anyone is interested.

Do you use iTunes to accomplish this?

I have to try this out tonight. It didn't even occur to me to try a DVD in my CD player. I have an '04 E55. I'll post back to let everyone know the results (in case anyone cares).

On another note, I found a cool feature on my E55. Someone check to see if it works on other models:
Have you ever wished there was one button to automatically close all windows plus the sunroof? Well, there is one (at least on the E55). The recirculate button doubles as what MB calls a Tunnel button. That is, if you are approaching a tunnel (and all your windows are open) you press and hold the Recirculate button for a long second and all windows will close. They say if you press the Recirc button again then all your windows will return to their previous open positions, however that part doesn't seem to work on my car. Oh well, at least I can quickly close all windows if it starts to rain.

This feature works the same on my S500 and also returns the windows and the sunroof to the same position prior to the button closing them afterwards. Pretty nice and convenient feature.

That sounds like a nice feature especially with the playlists. Please post the pics or email them to me at kynio@sevenhillsrealty.com Thanks.

DVD-MP3 disc

Thanks for the tip on the DVD-MP3 disc. I burned my first DVD-MP3 disc with 250 songs (only about 1.8G worth) and it plays in my DVD Command Unit. Now I need to download more songs and fill up the DVD-MP3 disc.

Dvd-mp3

I burned a DVD-MP3 disc using Nero 5 on my computer. I only have about 1.8G worth of mp3 songs on the computer, so the DVD disc is not full. I put the burned DVD-MP3 disc into my 2005 SL600's Command Unit and it read the DVD-Mp3 disc as a CD-MP3 with over 250 songs. I cannot wait till I have more mp3 songs on my computer and I can burn a full DVD-Mp3 disc. Sorry, I do not know how to upload a picture to this message. Can someone tell me how?

you have to connect the camera to the computer thru the cable provide for it (usually the camera comes with it) and when the cmputer identify the new hardware download the photos to your hard drive and then when you are posting follow the link (browser) thru your hard drive and identify the files(photos) that you intent to post.

So how did you figure out how to load the MP3's? I don't have a aux jack in my glove compartment.

Hi Lovin,

My SL also does not have an aux jack in the glovebox. The beauty of the 2005 DVD Command in our SLs is that it can play mp3-CDs, DVDs, and as I just recently discovered mp3-DVDs. You need to make the mp3-DVD from your computer by burning mp3 music files from your computer to a DVD disc. I used a program called Nero5 to burn my first mp3-DVD a few days ago. I only have about 260 songs so far, so the DVD disc is only 33% full. I cannot wait till I accumulate enough songs to burn a full mp3-DVD. Depending on the file size of your songs, I estimate you can fit about 800 songs on a DVD disc! Good luck with the DVD burning!
