You reference an 8-month old article from Autospies as evidence that M-B is going to facelift the SL? I think you are going to need to do a better job than that to convince the non-believers among us.

Updates!
Here is the latest from Autospies. No mention to their earlier article which predicted much more significant changes. I have had three SL's since 2003 and I cannot tell the difference. Hooray!

"Here are the first good shots from our friend Brenda Priddy of the 2006 re-freshed Mercedes SL.
Although subtle, it looks like there is a new shape to the air intakes as well as the foglamp housing (much more shapely). Grille slightly modified (fewer and wider bars). And the rear fascia is slightly modified (down low) with updated (but the same shape) taillight lenses. "

well, mercedes has always been very conservative about their facelifts, and i think this also holds true to their design strategy. i'm so glad that they decided not to go with the stupid looking slr style nose, and just subtly update the look of the car. don't get me wrong, i love the look on the slr, but as a more classy gt/convertible, i was questioning whether that look would have worked well with the sl. also i'm glad that they abandoned the all-red tail light and added a clear stripe to give more visual interest. looks cleaner that way IMO.

Now that is definitely the SL facelift coming soon. Im so glad they didnt go for the SLR style facelift. It will be interesting to go back through all those claims to see who claimed that they were positive and had direct sources that there would be an SLR style refresh. I think the facelift looks very nice, especially the back lights and and AMG looking back bumper. The front, although always beautiful has a different look that is probably fresher and nicer than current. However we havent seen any AMG models, it will be interesting to see what changes are made to them as all the changes on these pics are different on the 55 anyway.

Thats make me more sence that the other photo. Not a big deal the changes. Brenda Priddy is a trust source to me. I saw a lot of is reports in other sites like thecarconnection.com and was all corroborated at the time pass.

Tail lights
I think the new tail lights are an improvement. I never really cared for the red ones because they remind me of the accord coupe. I had the dealer switch mine out for the AMG ones the first time my car was in the shop. I always thought the AMG taillights should have always been part of the sport pkg. anyway. I guess it's a matter of taste -- to each his own. I'm so relieved they didn't tamper much more with the design.

I'm torn between the look of the new nose which on the SL when we got used to it would look great. However I agree with most of the SL forum that the more mature look woud be spoiled.
I can't see the next generation SL 2008? getting away with a conservative revamp. The downside of this could be that 5th generation owners are left with a dated looking car. Hope not.

This is the 321 sports package?
I believe this car is a 321 sports package option. The rear, with the exception of the lenses is exactly the same as the 2005. The sides are also the same. I think the front just may be the sports package front and not the regular front or are they making all the cars look like the sports package? I would find that hard to believe since the sports package is over $5,000.
Any thoughts?

The front air dam shown in the pictures is not the same as the that on the sport package, though it is close. I am not sure I like the new rear end fascia, but I will defer judgement until I see it in person. I give a thumbs up to the new rear lenses and the front air dam though.

I still don't see a lot of changes and the rear facia look equal to me excep for the tail lights that I like. Regarding the front I agree that looks to me as a sport package than the normal one, but I always prefere the sport look.
