Need Advice on SL600 Upgrades!
Hey there, I am a longtime member at a similar forum www.corvetteforums.com and just helped my dad acquire a 2004 SL600 in exchange for his 2003 SL500. The performance difference concerned me enough that I said he should go to a performance driving school, and we eventually came to the agreement that I would upgrade his performance on the SL600 after we went to my favorite school together. Now I have put my foot in it, because I knoe moew about Vettes than Benzes. :bb: I would appreciate any thoughts about the various tuners, especially concerning things like warranties, reliablility, etc instead of bleeding every last HP out of the car. In addition, I would prefer an Eastern tuner (Shipping is expensive)
Thanks in advance for all your help!
BTW, I do have a Benz too, so don't trash me as a pure vette owner!

SL500 and A-CLASS
Welcome aboard. Do not feel bad for owning a vette. I came from a family of loyal vette owners. My mom disowned me for about a month for not buying a red Corvette.
Before you even decide about tuning the SL600, you better make sure that MB of Knoxville will not void the warranty if you decide to get the car tune. I was told if I had a problem with my lights, my warranty would be voided because of the tuner upgrade. I think Atlanta has some tuners there.
By the way, what is the name of the perfomance driving school that you are looking at? I going to see if my local MBCA club will host a performance driving school. One of the MBCA clubs is hosting one in Ohio. http://mbca.cartama.net/showthread.php?t=5088
Goto the links below and ask where is the closet dealer.

It is now called Spring Mountain Motorsports park in Pahrump, NV. Beginning school is 3 days for about $2300, and you spend at least 15 hours in the seat of the car. Best bang for the buck I have found (If you forget about the cost of getting out there and back)

The owners do lease the track out for track days.
Formerly Bragg-Smith Advanced Driving School
Thanks for the tuner info!

I wonder how that performance driver school compares to the one in Ohio for $250 bucks.

Concerning your original question, I’ve been very satisfied with Renntech’s ECU and transmission software mods for sportier throttle response and greater power. I can’t vouch for warranty coverage with Renntech's product because I haven’t had any problems with the car! My only caution concerns doing the installation yourself, because you have to disassemble the panels in the footwell to get to the TCU.
