Getting annoyed

Well Wolfman, just don't know where you are getting your info from as my dealer has absolutely no clue whatsoever. For example, do you even have any pricing, because I don't and May is around the corner??

They have pricing on nothing, delivery dates on nothing, no pricing on any options...Also trying to put the 1K Red calipers as an option...well their computers won't allow this where it clearly states this is an option

I want to know what tires are coming..they have no idea??? Do you know..

Need some help here please or if you wish need to know who you are going through and you can PM me if you wish.......

EDIT. Didn't read your post completely.

Pricing is not out yet, but there aren't really any surprises. It will likely be within a couple $K of the 2016 prices. That some options aren't selectable may mean that they are not available at this time. Selecting them could delay an order. I can check on the caliper option.

I am getting a copy of the PO but this is what I picked...

775 Iridium Silver
515 Porcelain/Back Exclusive Nappa
61U Black Dynamica Headliner
736 High Gloss Black Ash Wood
788 AMG Multi-spoke 19” wheels
L5D Wood Leather Steering Wheel
P01 Premium Package
997 Driver Assistance Package
412 Magic Sky Panorama Roof
487 ABC with Curve function
883 Soft Close Doors
U25 Illuminated Door Sills

I like that the exclusive Nappa is now available, so the full leather treatment like our old SL600

Have they added 360 Surround Camera as an option for the '17 SL?

The U70 Red Caliper Option is only available for the SL63/65. That's why it can't be applied to a SL450/550.

Re. the tires, just expect the same run flats as before. I assume zero change as no tire options are listed in the DOG. In Europe, run flats are a chargeable option with conventional performance tires as a default.

Thx W for your reply..............Will be getting the same as you apart from the color..still not sure re my original pearlized white or the new blue.
Not getting 515, 883(is this really necessary?) 61U 0r 412.
I am amazed that they(whoever they r?) are quoting you May delivery as my dealer states that they don't even know in Germany when they are delivering?

Have around 30K on my 2013, what do you think is a realistic price I can expect from the Dealer? Nearly fully loaded.

The dealer didn't didn't give me the date. This is based on my calculation of the SL build-time/shipping. That said I am not sure why you say the they don't know in Germany when cars are delivering?

Re. the options, exclusive Nappa is never necessary but very nice. Just like our S-Class and old SL, there is no MB-Tex anywhere (on the SL regular and napa interiors, the dash/doors & interior panels are all MB-Tex). Also love the Magic Sky. Works great where we live.

Selected the Iridium Silver but am thinking Selenite Gray for the car. Here is a pic in the matte (magno) version. I would take the glossy paint but I like the color.

The blue is beautiful but my wife doesn't like it; the white is perfect for warm states like FL & CA but not as attractive in cooler climates IMO.

I am surprised there isn't a big thread about the model changes.

Is it even a real facelift?

???

It's a bigger facelift than most other MB's (with the exception of the W212 that saw a lot of metal changes)

Don't like the facelift for the simple reason that the 2012-16 SL's had a true character through the headlights which are inspired from the Pagoda (W113).

The new headlights look like anything else on the road, i.e Ford, Kia, etc...

Glad I have the old version, Pearl White/Red.

I have never been crazy about the front-end of the R231 (particularly the headlights) but really like the rest of the car, especially lowered and with different wheels.

So I look forward to the updated front-end.
That said I really can't see how the SL would look anything like a Ford or Kia ever. The front-end design was derived from the AMG GT which is a fantastic looking car

Btw. the Pagoda had upright headlights; how do you figure the inspiration?

Yes, it has the 9G Tronic. I have posted the DOG in another thread. It shows all changes for the model year in detail.

Not sure this is of interest to anyone--if not disregard. Notice mention of grey finish vs the silver. Enclosed find my pics of SL in Magno Alanite Grey with Sienna Brown interior.
I really like my color choice. At this point in time the matte finish has not been a issue.

I looked through the order manual today, and designo graphite did not appear to be available. How did you get it?

p15 of the 2017 sl dealer ordering guide. paint code 041; $2,300.

and in the interest of full disclosure ,,, my dealer has a designo graphite sl in his inventory and i went over to look at it. it looked flat to me ,,, but the weather was decidedly cloudy/ overcast. i know on sunny days it looks really good but this one looked so drab. and for a gt cruiser, i think it needs more pop or personality. all the time. so i decided right there against ordering it. and instead, i am getting a new black on black gle63 amg. how's that for doing a 180 (from both the s and the sl!!)? HA! that rig is beast!

I ordered a SL450 today in Magno Selenite Grey. The car is being built in mid-June, and I should have it in hand by early August.

still no delivery date

Basically my Mercedes dealer has no idea when we will have a delivery..Wolfman you were possibly expecting a late April delivery..why do I think nobody is going to see delivery until August?

Anyway, changed my mind re the new blue color or at least I thought I did until I checked how much they are asking for the pearl white color...
$3900.00!!!! WHAT? 3 years ago it was $790.00! But still feel that we have a right to know approximately when delivery will be as opposed to being told...MB have a habit of not announcing until the last minute on new cars..well its not new, its a facelift. Rant over as I still am a big supporter.....however........

Anyone here driven a California Ferrari.......besides the obvious questions..comfort factor comparisons?

Hi Branmin,
I mentioned late May (not April) and that was based on my estimates given that the SL's are out in showrooms on April 9 in Germany (not US).

Here is my rationale:
First off, I don't care what my dealer says because they always know less. Especially on new model deliveries.
Even if they would know, it is also not in their best interest to push for future car sales as selling existing inventories makes their paycheck.

Also, model roll-outs are much more coordinated worldwide and the intro dates don't vary as widely.
So if a car is showing up in a German showroom, production for US cars is also running at the same time. They can't manufacture a pre-facelift car along with a face-lifted one.

Now, whoever ordered a new SL will most likely see a 2nd or 3rd decade June build.
All cars are in A4 status, so I would take this date with a grain of salt as these are more placeholders than production schedules.

Like you, I am hoping for the fastest delivery. When I hear more I'll let you know.

Btw. It is interesting how few choices really exist for a nice two seater convertible.
Don't care for Porsche, BMW doesn't have one, looked at Jaguar F-type, Aston Martin DB9 & Vanquish (Vantage is too small) and the Bentley Continental. No Ferrari dealership here either.

Strangely enough, the SL was still my choice (actually the Vanquish was, but not for $335k)

How I chose my SL

When deciding what car to buy myself, I drove a slew of alternatives -- including a 2016 Ferrari California T. Now that car is amazing in terms of performance, appearance and luxury; its handling and acceleration are both extraordinary, and the interior is fabulous and the color choices (paint and leather) magnificent. But, given I was looking for a car that put luxurious comfort first and while the California T provided me an exhilarating test drive, it immediately fell out of the running for that reason. Naturally, I next tried out the Bentley Continental V8 convertible. Wow! That is a marvelous vehicle, but so is its price once you shop in the Bentley options department. I just didn't want to put that much money into a car. For the hell of it, I also considered the Jaguar F-type. It is a nice car, but the cost tradeoffs made in order to establish its value-oriented price points left the interior shabbier than I wanted, although the R-version offers, I found, really impressive performance for the money.

After all that, the SL looked like a real value, particularly in its non-AMG variants. Initially, I considered all the SL offerings, but quickly eliminated the 65 and the 63. I have owned AMG vehicles (two E's, a CLS and two SLK's) since the late 1990s, and at nearly 70 now I find that I am preferring to be swaddled in luxury rather than being the first car off the line at the stop light. That left me with the SL550 and the SL 450 as finalists. This two seater is going to be a car that goes mainly to the grocery store and restaurants; its only road trips are likely to be to the airport. And so, I opted for the 450, chose nearly every option offered from designo paint to the ABC suspension -- and am as happy as the proverbial clam and very eager to get my hands on it this summer.
