Any info on 2018 SL?

Hi, I'm planning to buy a new SL, and was wondering when the 2018 models will be out. From autocar, I understand that the new models will have a different chassis and a soft-top, http://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/ne...amg-engineered.

If the 2018 models will arrive this summer, I may wait until then.

There is no change for 2018, other than maybe a couple small software changes.

The magazine is wrong on timing; the R232 will not be out for a couple of years.

Thank god, as I was already starting to have buyers remorse.

According to MBUSA, for the 2018 model year, the SL (and possibly other models) will be available to order in "ANY" regular production color which has "EVER" been offered by MB on any model in any year. No word yet on what this option might cost or how long such a special order may take.

Just heard from a dealer that they'll be taking orders in the next couple of weeks for a mid-August delivery of 2018 SL models. Don't know what's new, but if I hear anything interesting, I'll post it.

"The next couple of weeks????" No offense, but that doesn't sound right. It is JANUARY and a completely new or refreshed model is not coming for 2018, it will just be pretty much the same car as the 2017. I don't think anyone will even see the 2018 Dealer Ordering Guide for several more months. Of course, I've been wrong before, so who knows?

With the refreshed, 2018 S Class sedan getting a selection of "new" engines, do we think the 2018 SL will get them as well?

Highly unlikely. The V8 engines were already available for the MY2017 (2016 for non-US) facelift and they chose not to swap the engines.
It's likely a cost/benefit scenario given the low production volume.

I've asked 3 dealers now, and none has any reliable info on the 2018 SL, except that it's coming soon, and will probably be the last retractable hardtop for awhile. A 2nd dealer told me, a couple of weeks ago, that they will start taking orders in 2 weeks, but they still are not. And a 3rd dealer told me today that the 2018 models will probably arrive in June, but they're not taking orders yet and have no info on what's new

FWIW, in the past 2-3 days, they added the free "Aluminum Trim" interior option to the build page. And today's dealer told me that they are offering a $2500 sales incentive discount on new ones. They don't expect this discount to decrease for the next few months, but it may increase.

Since the refresh came for the MY 2017, I would imagine the model will remain for MY 2018 and MY 2019, with the brand new car coming for MY 2020.

This is the likely scenario. Originally the R232 was slated for MY21 but looks to with introduced in 2019 as MY20

Dealers don't know since there is nothing to know. Taking order now for a MY2018 would simply make zero sense. There is right of tight allocations.
It's the same car as the MY17 with a some option/tech/color tweaks. Small stuff.

Just heard that MB will be launching a designo Edition of the SL models at the Geneva Motor Show next month. It's basically the blue exterior / white interior car shown on their website and on the cover of the 2017 SL brochure "with even more exclusivity." Sales start on Feb 6, market launch in April.

My lease is up in a year on my 2015 400. I don't want to keep it and would like a new one with some different options.

I really like my color combo though, Mars Red with the Designo Titanium (graphite grey) leather. I'd totally swap the magic view glass roof for the non-dimming one and get the driver assist package instead.

I have to admit, it isn't real compelling to come off-lease and start over on basically the same car without some updates to make it more interesting though.

As I am sure you know, you have a VERY rare color combination and I would VERY much like to see photos of your car. I am considering ordering that exact same combination, but have never seen one. If you could possibly post some good photos, particularly of the interior, I would very much appreciate it.

As I have posted previously, MBUSA has told me that for MY 2018, one will have the option of ordering the SL in "ANY" color that MB has previously offered on any regular production passenger car, which would make Mars Red available again.

Local dealer here said that they would be excepting orders for '18s in a few weeks. Would love to see a Paladium Siver ('09 - '12 color) exterior with the Titanium Grey interior! Have seen very few with that Designo interior and regret not buying a '13 that had it with Black wood trim and Designo Mangno White exterior.
