Looking for anyone that has installed a Vaeth remotely programmable exhaust on a 2013 or later SL65.

R231 SL65 Production:
2012: is lumped into 2013...
2013: 241 units North America plus 148 units (LHD: 106, RHD: 42) elsewhere for a total of 389 units worldwide
2014: 68 units North America plus 38 units (LHD: 24, RHD: 14) elsewhere for a total of 106 units worldwide
2015: 49 units North America plus 24 units (LHD: 20, RHD: 4) elsewhere for a total of 73 units worldwide
2016: 21 units North America plus 33 units (LHD: 26, RHD: 7) elsewhere for a total of 54 units worldwide
2017: 55 units North America plus 37 units (LHD: 30, RHD: 7) elsewhere for a total of 92 units worldwide
2018: 19 units North America plus 30 units (LHD: 25, RHD: 5) elsewhere for a total of 49 units worldwide
The worldwide grand total from this is 763 units for all R231 SL65s.
(LHD=left-hand drive, RHD=right-hand drive)
To cross check, the pre-facelift R231 (2012-2016) number reported in the MB public archive is 631 units. The comparable total here is 622 units, so it's close. Unlike the VIN, The FIN for vehicles outside North America doesn't contain a model year code. For those vehicles I followed MB's approach for VIN vehicles, which is that model year goes from May thru April. So, for example, the first vehicle for 2017 would occur on May 1, 2016. This may explain the difference in counts.

Hi I have a 2013 SL65. Worldwide production numbers were 631 from Mar 2012 to 2016. I know that in NZ I have the last 65 in the country - with only 17,000kms.
Would like to know how many LHD and RHD cars out of the 631 were made and how many LHD and RHD for 2013.
Thanks.

I plan to look at 2013, but I'm still scratching my head over the 2014 numbers. They seem low given the total R231 pre-facelift count of 631 units, which comes from the MB archive and I assume is accurate. My theory is that the Black series makes up the difference. I think there were 300 of those built for R231. I need to investigate that first to validate my 2014 numbers.

That's great that would be good!
I thought the Black Series was only for the R230 circa 2009. Your 11 cars for 2014 does seem low, as most of the production run goes to NA and could be 60% plus (of the total of 631 over the 4 years).

You're right, the Black series was only for R230. I'm looking now to see if I missed some codes in the VIN. Only other possibility is that 2013 had way more built than 2014, since the numbers probably only get smaller going forward. We'll see...

I just tried to find the total production of the SL Saga, but i just only get production until the end of the R230 model.
For example the total number of R230 SL65AMG was 3.055 from 2004 to 2010
But i can´t find any data for the R231
Sorry for my bad English, greetings from Spain

Great work Joe! That leaves 124 units for the remaining years including 2012. Can you tell please what numbers are LHD and RHD for the total of 631 or for the two years you have??
Many thanks Paul

Technically, model year 2013 is the first year for the R231. There were some vehicles delivered prior to April 2012 (when the 2013 model year would normally start). Those were listed as "Factory Sales". As you probably know model year is more of a North America thing since it's coded into the VIN, whereas the FIN has no such field. Nothing shows up for the 2012 model year (code "C") within North America. All the early deliveries are already in the numbers I posted as "2013" models outside North America.
Next is to get VIN/FINs for 2015 thru 2017 models. I expect that to be a short list.

Thought everyone might be interested in MB USA's response to my inquiry about production numbers. Here's the response email:
The VIN decoder sites get their data from somewhere. I can only conclude that MB sells this data to them.

Hi Joe
Yes that makes sense and good to know it is a low production vehicle. We go on MY in NZ too, I think it was either production from June 1 or Aug 1 of each year, So a June 1 build date 2013 would be MY14.
We look forward to the next update, and outstanding work Joe! Everyone is indebted to you.
Best regards
Paul from a cold NZ morning.

The Mercedes public archive provides data on the pre-facelift R231 (2012 - 2016). Link here:
SL 65 AMG, 2012 - 2016 (from 12.2014: Mercedes-AMG SL 65) (mercedes-benz-publicarchive.com)
Click the General tab to see production number. There is no official source for data by year.
