2019 SL63 Import Delays
I special ordered a 2019 SL63 back in May 2018. The car was built in late August and arrived at the Brunswick, GA Vehicle Processing Center on September 7th. It’s been held up there ever since, four months now, because the EPA won’t release this particular ‘High Performance’ model. Has anyone heard anything about this situation and what the specific problem is?

If this car has been sitting outside in the weather all this time, if it were me, I would probably just pass on it. It’s almost like your new car will be a somewhat mistreated, year old car when it is finally released. However, if you still want it, regardless of this being an EPA hold up, I would make an opportunity out of this and see how much of an additional discount you can squeeze out of the dealer. AND, I would be in touch with MBUSA, telling them that you are going to buy a BMW instead, since you are tired of waiting. Chances are that they may come up with some “customer retention” money, to keep you from jumping ship and these funds would be over and above the best deal you have made with the dealer.

I hope you have received or are about to receive your car. I have a question. When you ordered your 2019 SL63 did you include the optional 2 Stage Performance Suspension? And, if you did do you know if it is more firmer in comfort mode than if not optioned and left as the standard AMG SL63 tuned suspension?

Fortunately No. I can only think it was not kept out in the sun and rain, as there was NO RAIN Spots specially on the hood or flat places.
I did get the dealer to thoow in many things - to get different wheels that Mercedes had in stock, rather than the ones the car came with, also
3 years of Maintenance was thrown in ! The Dealers know, who would buy a convertible in December or January, so they are prepared to give you extras. Ask for 4 years free maintenance, and they will agree to 3 years. If you dont like the wheels that come with the car, and would like rims that are available
from Mercedes, ask them to change the rims before delivery, they will give you the rims, and you can sell them. I pre-traded my 2015 SL for a 2018 SL, would not pretrade again - even to save a few bucks. I would wait until the car arrives and is ready for delivery to me the next time. However, if they do away with the Metal Top and go to a Cloth top, I will keep the 2018 until the wheels fall off !

Finally! 6 months to the day after it was built and over five months of delay at the Vehicle Processing Center in Brunswick, GA. Absolutely worth it though :-)

Congrats on your new roadster! Make sure to sign up for the free AMG track day. We were at Lagonda Seca and had a great time.
The SL63’s did very well on the track.
Enjoy in in good health and post some more pics!
