What tyres for comfort on the R231 ?

A friend of mine here in the UK has a 2014 R231 AMG line and it is fitted with the 19" staggered wheel set up.
What make of tyres are you using and how firm or comfortable do you find the ride please.
He is not using run flats at the moment.

I run Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires (which forced me to upgrade to 295s in the rear- awesome looking BTW) and they made the ride a whole lot smoother, quieter, and improved performance. If ride quality trumps performance for your friend, then I'd go for the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3, which have a softer sidewall but are all-season performance tires. I would advise against any run-flat tire.

Spot on. Although I would re-phrase ride quality to ride comfort for the A/S.

I've just got A/S 3+ and I'm very happy with them, smooth quiet ride...

Same here - just replaced original Continental run-flats with Michelin A/S 3s and it made a noticeable difference.

You know, using the factory recommended sizes for my 2019 SL450, TireRack reviewers actually give the Yokohama all season tires the highest comfort rating. Anyone here ever use Yokohama tires?

Should we assume you are referring to the Yokohama Advan Sport A/S Tires? While I have no experience with those, I am currently running another Yokohama Tire.

When I purchased my 2006 CL55 AMG as a CPO back in 2010, it came with a new set of 19" Yokohama S-Drive Tires which are actually STILL on the car! I've found them to be quite satisfactory. (My CL55 AMG does have ABC as the 'standard' suspension). Note that the S-Drive Tires are 'Ultra High Performance Summer' Tires, (NOT A/S Tires like the Yokohama Advan Sports).

While the Yoko S-Drives remain available for now, that won't be the case much longer. I noted recently that Tire Rack is closing out these tires at 'special prices' while also offering free shipping). A set of (4) can be had right now for less than $700.

This is how I filled our their Decision Guide and then the results. Their top pick is the Yokohama.

The Yokohama has the worst performance and looks, plus road noise is increased on all seasons.

Yokohamas are known for being noisy. Michelins in general are the best tires money can buy. I wouldn't pick a slight better comfort for an inferior performing tire (as Keon stated)

Yeah, I’m going with the A/S 3+. I like Michelin tires as well, and Bridgestone doesn’t seem to make a competitive tire, so Michelin it is!

I'd advise against going for all-seasons if you live somewhere where it's always warm. They will have more road noise and will have a shorter treadlife despite the treadwear rating. The ride with the PS4S is already great, don't sacrifice performance and noise.
