I Wish MB Would Hire A Better Mapping Company!

I was hoping the maps on my ‘19 would be a upgrade to the ones on the ‘17 but they are the same crappy maps. I drive a lot of rural roads for pleasure and in my F250 and my wife’s XT5 the maps are so acccurate they show the tiniest gravel back roads and even most private ranch roads. The Mercedes maps omit most, 95%, of the county roads in my area and even occasionally do not have major county roads. Come on Mercedes... it’s not 1950 anymore!

I agree completely. My new to me 2013 SL550 had the original maps on it. I payed the $99 plus $20 for the dealer to install for the 2019 maps. Only to find a major intersection recently added to Rt 295 in my area two plus years ago is not even present! And the exit numbers for the entire length of 295 which changed prior to the new exit being added still show the old numbers.

Anyone know what company provides these maps for MB?

I actually stopped using the navigation on my SL when it told me that the highway I was on was an off-mapped road. I was on the Highway 400 South, a major highway in Ontario.

Have you updated your maps? There have been three updates since the version in the car and they're better. Not as good as Google Maps, but the update is worth doing. You do it yourself online for free.

Have you tried using Waze with your Android Auto or Apple Car Play? It's always more up to date than any of the MB maps.

The pre-facelift cars do not have self install map updates, although they are actually very easy to install. And we don't have Apple Play available, sigh.

You are 100% correct but I find Waze superior in so many ways; more up to date, much more attractive graphics, real-time traffic, road hazard, red light camera and police locations. As an added bonus, it actually seems to understand what I am asking for almost 100% of the time. AND IT"S TOTALLY FREE !!!

The graphics on the COMAND nav on my car are vastly better than Waze or Maps. Really gorgeous and detailed. Easier to zoom in or out, shows gas stations with the price of premium displayed, etc. It even shows some hazards, but not as complete as Waze. I usually have Waze or Maps doing the navigating through Android Auto but leave the display on COMAND nav until I get to areas with a lot of turns. And the voice control seems to work just about as well as Google for identifying destinations. Big improvement over my last COMAND, which was a 2013. And the maps and POI lists are pretty accurate for everyplace I've been, using the latest updates.

me: 2015 SL400 & 2015 ML400; wife: 2022 GLC Coupe kid: 2017 GLC SUV
in my previous MBs that had DVD-based maps I would buy bootleg DVDs from a forum member. my wife started using Waze in her E350, and I resisted, as I didn't like the sound and images coming from the cellphone. when I bought her C300 in 2015 I was adamant about getting the required SD card to enable the COMAND navigation, for which the dealer wanted $600. ultimately I used $150 in "Rewards" money they had given me for buying the car in the first place, and bought during a parts department sale, total net $423.75, and my wife has never used it! one day stuck in gridlock traffic in my CLK550 I downloaded Waze and I've never looked back. I have tried the COMAND nav in the SL400 and it's fine but I prefer Waze now.....

It would be nice if they open sourced that part of the command to allow for you to change to a Nav software of your choice.

New maps for North America have been posted to the Mercedes Me portal again. That's the fourth this year. Anyone with a '19 model who does not take advantage of these free updates is cheating himself.
