The V8 is making a comeback (confirmed)
I think this post deserved its own thread.
A few sites are now reporting that because of the lacklustre sales of both the four pot C63 and GLC 63, MB is bringing back the V8 for definitely the CLE 63 AMG and from here we can probably extrapolate that the E63s will get another V8. The question will be whether it gets V8 and the hybrid system as found in the E-Performance line or ‘just’ the V8 as is the case with this CLE 63.

As was said - "Money is king". The majority of the performance Coal powered cars are folks third and fourth cars (next to their Suburban). Fact is, my neighbor (who owns a freaking tire shop) who has a Jeep Wrangler Rubicon (392), massive Dodge (dualie) pickup truck...probably two dozen "work trucks"....for his "fun car" he is already over his Tesla (Plaid), looking to dump it and get a GT3.
This might change in a few generations. That said, I am in FL and with our hurricanes and the fact that a Tesla can not "Store" extra power in a big tank in our yards...yeah, no good.

Some of the articles have quoted Markus Shafer that same exact point that sales will determine it. If that is true, which it has to be, we’ll be seeing it again.

But personally I'd rather just use the vehicle itself as backup power for my house like with a Ford EV: https://chargers.ford.com/ford-charge-station-pro
Step Up When the Power’s Down
If the lights go out, your F-150 Lightning and its Intelligent Backup Power won’t leave you in the dark. Bi-directional power flow harnesses your truck’s stored battery power to help power your home when a Charge Station Pro is installed with the Home Integration System.

A friend installed the Tesla power thing at his (lake) home...it has not been figured out, some three years later. The same guy, you know - "saving the earth" did just sell his spare helicopter because who needs two helicopters? (two helicopters is just wasteful, right...).
I was at his hanger the other day and he was on his knees at my front wheel saying "Those are the STOCK brakes?"....(oh, his hanger is at his airport house, on his private airport with his private runway that only he uses.....) These are the current EV customers.... :-)

I find the moves by so many automakers hilarious...asking premium buyers to abandon what THEY want for what automakers WANT to build hasn't worked so well. Probably the most delerious is Stellantis...eliminating V8's from the most V8 hungry and proud brand there is will have certain consequences. Replacing a hellcat with an EV... Oh boy. I can already see the hedge fund buying it from Stellantis as a dead brand...

Another article confirming the very likely return of then V8
this article suggests it could be 2027 before we see the V8, but it’s coming. Apparently Mercedes is offering 18 per cent discounts on the four banger C63s.

Big fan of the return, eventhough I ended up with an FE myself, the V8 needs to stay. The decline of Tesla should be a big sign about the government regulations.m not being enough.

The V8 formula I'd love to see is normally aspirated, high compression, cylinder deactivation. Energy recovery to a high capacity capacitor. Don't get flashy with how much the capacitor can add power, just make it big enough to run accessories. Perhaps running accessories that are electric as per M256 as long as it doesn't add weight.
Basically give it the soul of a V8 but add efficiency with virtually no extra weight. I don't care if it's only 550 HP, give it the pure character that a master engine builder can offer. Nine speed transmissions can easily put that formula into optimum efficiency or power.
If you need to make crazy power please quit with the weezy turbos and properly supercharge.

Agree that the sedan versions look like jellybeans, but the SUVs have a different profile. The new 2024 E450 looks odd IMO, but MB is probably not looking to sell many of those. The EQEX4 does not have a tall profile (only 5.5" higher than my previous E63S wagon). Great rear seat legroom, but I do miss the multi-contour seats.

beauty is in the eye of the buyer/beholder, and sales and resale values are what they are
