Geburtstagsgeschenk fur Machtige Maus!
Well, the title of this thread would suggest that “Mighty Mouse” is having a birthday, but “she” (I’ve decided that MM is a girl! ) is not old enough to have a birthday, but mine’s coming up and I decided to treat myself! So, a couple of weeks ago, I placed an order with a very reputable shop and yesterday, all the parts arrived to do the Carbon Ceramic Brake upgrade to my SL450. The swap will take place next week and I’ll have more photos to share. Happy Birthday to Me!

Streamliner - Happy Birthday ! What a thoughtful gift - lol. Send pics and your overall evaluation, especially how it achieves your primary objective of improved cleanliness. And if you wouldn't mind sharing the approximate total out of pocket to achieve the conversion. "Sugar", my MY17 SL63, is now jealous.

Yes, and it appears that it will reside in my garage for a VERY long time. Now that I will be so hopelessly past the point of no return investment wise, the next step I am looking into is the full SL65 metamorphosis of the front bumper, grill, rocker panels and rear diffuser. Christmas is coming up!
By the way, thanks to you, Wolf, for your help in educating me about these fabulous brakes. My thanks also goes out to our friend D49, who blazed the trail on this retrofit. His list of the small parts was invaluable.

When you park it and turn around and admire it 3 times as you're walking away, then it is money well spent!
I'm still doing the triple take myself as well...lol
Enjoy those wheels and brakes...

WOW! GREAT and I too might follow your lead.
Questions:
1)Please respond to Iridum's questions in his post above: "Send pics and your overall evaluation, especially how it achieves your primary objective of improved cleanliness. And if you wouldn't mind sharing the approximate total out of pocket to achieve the conversion."
2) Is a MB dealer doing the install or an Indy?
3) Will MB warranty be affected?
4) Did you buy parts via MB dealer or if not where and cost please (reason I ask is I believe I can get a 20% discount on parts and wonder how that compares to list price).
Another non related brake question: Have you had Xpel application done and if so how much of the car?
Tx, Steve
PS: Also eager to follow your SL65 additions.

Congratulations on making the jump! You won't regret it. I am still surprised that they don't make this a standard option available for all models, because I honestly believe it is a complete gamechanger.
As far as dirt goes, my SL had 3 coats of ceramic applied by an expert detailler, including to the wheels. Before the conversion there was brake dust everywhere, and while having the wheels coated meant that they could be cleaned off easier, it hardly solved anything. After the conversion there was much much less, but there will always be a little dust from simply being outside no matter what.

Congrats Streamliner, and many happy returns. It's a wonderful day when we truly get something we want for our birthdays! Enjoy the drive, and the improvement in braking! Well played.

2. Indy. I do not believe a dealer will do it. They would do the CCB upgrade to a car on which the CCB option was originally available, like the SL63, but I believe that there is some sort of a factory roadblock to dealers adding something like this to a model on which it was never offered. That said, IF a dealer did the job, the price would have been in the ionosphere! (It’s already in the stratosphere!) A fellow on the C217 board had a dealer put the CCB’s on his 2017 S63 Coupe and the bill was “about $26,000.00,” honestly, at that point, IMO, one should have given great thought to just ordering a new car with the $8,900.00 CCB option.
3. Well, I don’t see a dealer doing warranty work on anything to do with the parts I am changing, but I do not believe it will affect anything else. The shop I am using is very tight with MBUSA and they obtained all parts domestically, through authorized MB dealers. They tell me that the parts will all be covered under MBUSA warranty, but should any service like that be needed, I would probably need to take it back to the Indy shop. Frankly, I really don’t want the dealer fooling with the wheels or brakes, if possible.
4. Can’t share that yet and will not be able to share exact figures, as per my agreement with the shop. I will say that it is costing me more than I had hoped for when I first started shopping. I decided to let this shop order all the parts and do everything, as it is much easier and I trust the owner. I will reveal name as soon as job is completed.
I have never used anything like Xpel on any car, but I’ve never been “married” to a car as I am to this one. This SL will never see California freeways and will be driven almost exclusively on beautiful South Orange County roads, like Pacific Coast Highway. The car will, most likely, never travel more than 50 miles from my home. In addition, I drive very defensively, staying away from big trucks, etc. And, with a solid color white, should there be an unfortunate accident, the paint is “THE” easiest color to perfectly match. Anyway, long story short, no Xpel for me.

With what you will pay in total for the brake upgrade you might as well name each set of calipers.
I vote for Matthew, Mark, Luke and John......
Or Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young......

THAT is the car I would have sold my soul to the devil for! That was the MB “Ocean Drive,” 4-door, S Class based, Cabriolet. It was a one off concept car, built in 2007. Instead, MB built the S Class, 2-door Cabriolet, which I never really cared for. Our friend Wolfman points out that the Ocean Drive would have been very difficult to engineer. To that, I always say that THAT’S exactly why MB should have done it, to display their engineering prowess to the world. The car would have been an amazing “halo” car that would have been coveted by anyone seeking the ultimate luxury convertible. IMHO, it would have absolutely shamed the Rolls-Royce Dawn, and I love the Dawn. Imagine, a 4-door, big, spacious, ultra lux convertible!

Such a worthy upgrade and LOVE the gold color. All these German cars really kick out the carbon for sure - if it works- I will send you mine and you can give me a price!
