SL/R231: What kind of phone mount do you use?

What kind of phone mount do you use?
i love my SL but I'm struggling with what to do with my phone when driving. I have a CD-Mount that works decently but after a bump or two it falls out. I've been thinking of a "steelie" brand mount but that requires me to "stick" their ball mount onto the wood trim to the right of the stereo and I cringe at the thought of what kind of residue it might leave behind should I need to remove it or sell the car. I often just plop my phone into a cup holder but it rattles around a lot. I could just leave it in the center arm rest but unless I'm just driving around town I like to use Waze and, of course, my 2015 doesn't have Android Auto.
So, what do you do with your phone when driving your SL?

Mercedes actually makes a Smartphone holder for the 231 SL Class as a Telematics Accessory item.
The MB Part Number is A2228206401.

I know that WeatherTech makes a high-quality Smartphone holder that fits into a car's cupholder which seems like it could more like what you're looking for. If you need to keep your phone directly in your line of sight, that's probably the best option.

We recently got a WeatherTech for my wife's car, and it works great. In the SL, I just put it in the console and use COMAND for phone function. Here is a link to the WeatherTech options: https://www.weathertech.com/products...8aAoD0EALw_wcB

I went with ProClip Universal mount and an iOttie holder phone (you can use one of ProClip's too, obviously)

I have driven 22 different vehicles for 52 years quite successfully without use of a cell phone or a navigation device. I am amazed that I survived!

Too funny, and it is highly likely that you can use a map when necessary! I still use maps; gives me a better 'big' picture when needed. And yes, there are times today that I leave the house, and do not have a cell phone with me. But just look for a pay phone! Non-existent these days.

I will say, I do like the tech, but it is not to survive... If it all failed me, I do know how to get by without it.
I am in agreement with anyone who says that people should be able to navigate without the tech, it does fail at times.

It is very interesting. I suppose you attached it to a removable double-sided adhesive tape?
yes + wood screw
Also, did you lay the power cable to 12 V in the footwell on the passenger side?
Yes,
and just curious: Odessa TX or Odessa Ukraine?

You inspired me! But I don't want to screw into the console, so I ordered this one from Amazon, with a suction cup.

The link is right below the photo. I'm still tweaking the position but it's great. It has an IR sensor that magically opens as you approach with the phone, then automatically closes. Charges fast too.

Not a phone mount, but ordered this plug and play that fit right in the center console and includes wireless charging 15W.

I had this one and it worked great...until it didn't. The suction cup just stopped working one day. I cleaned it several times, would reinstall, work for a few days then fall off. Not saying that will happen with yours but eventually I gave up.
