Well. There was a carmaker calls Daimler in the UK, a division of Jaguar. Their cars used to be a step up from the Jaguar models back in the day. No affiliation with Daimler Benz of course and pronounced Dame-ler as you suggested.

A very general rule of thumb in German is that the the first vowel is silent while the second is pronounced...as it is in this case: Dime-ler. I used to work for them.
