First World Problems....E350 Sedan Loaner This Morning

Took the SL550 in for a airbag recall this morning and received a E350 sedan as a loaner. Was surprised at the ride and responsiveness of the steering. Inside finish so so but come on MB, the flat screen graphics for gauges is laughable and cheap looking. I kept looking at the screen expecting one of the Mario Brother’s or PacMan to wander across my view. Newer video games have depth and 3D graphics so what’s up on the Mercedes E Class?

MB’s of all kinds.
The E350 has the 4banger. Now you need a E450 for a V6. Sad

Yes, EPA mileage is driving everyone toward turbo I4 engines and electric. V8s will soon be just a memory except in supercars and ultraluxury models. This is one of the main reasons why the C8 Corvette is drawing so much attention. Has a NA OHV V8 with almost 500 HP with a base MSRP of $60k.

This is the classic display. You could have picked another design, like the progressive one

On MBUX models, there are so many different cluster designs that barely resemble a Speedo...

I’ll play with the system today and try the changes. MB is keeping the SL over the weekend.
Went out and changed the dash board settings...meh

There have been many discussions about the SL’s interior. Some find the analog cluster dated and old looking while I like the more traditional look for a top down roadster. Wouldn’t want a video game inspired design either.
The issue with digital dashes is that most look cheap. I do like the cluster images of the S-Class and our E63s is OK. There are superior for data and content but I have yet to find a great looking digital dash. Again more eye candy in MBUX (which the E class doesn’t have) but not classy...

If they configured the digital dash with more of a 3D look with depth it would be fine. While figuring out the settings I ran across the digital oil level gauge and was surprised that a 2020 unit with less than 3,500 miles registered a quart low.....

I am confused of what a 3D look would actually look like. A number of MBUX cluster options have some 3Dish look to it an look like crap IMO.

Could you post something that you think looks good?

New GLE looks great and the interior is a high improvement over the old one.

I have an E400 that came with the all digital dash. I wasn’t sure at first if I would like it but I like it very much. The digital gauges look alright to me and having one continuous screen all across looks much, much better than having mechanical gauges framed in a cutout, which is the alternative. So I think its a good setup for the E class and others. For the SL of course the classic dash is perfect.
