2020 SL550
2020 SL550 in the garage

It’s been a long couple of weeks. Working with my dealer, who I leased my 2018 SL550 from, to obtain my ideal SL550. Last week I signed all the paperwork and got the news that the car we had been working to get was headed in. Turned my 2018 in on Monday and the dealer loaned me a C300 for a couple of days. Today, I got the call. My 2020 was ready for me to pick up.

I loved my 2018, but it didn’t have everything I wanted, so not the one to keep for years. The dealer and I both searched nationwide for the right car for me. It was surprisingly difficult. Anyway, the 2020 is home now.

Designo Diamond White exterior
Exclusive Nappa Porcelain/Black
Designo Champagne White Piano Laquer (Wasn’t sure about this, but in person it is beautiful)
All the packages
B&O Sound System
Only thing missing is the ABC (but I was ok with that).

The exclusive Nappa Leather is sooo much better than the standard leather I had in my 2018.

Congratulations! Sounds beautiful! Be sure to post pics! And, be glad it does not have ABC, especially since you plan to keep this car!

As my dearly departed mom used to say: “To each, his own.” Glad you are OK with your choice and wishing you many thousands of safe, happy miles.

How did the negations with your dealer go? What was the discount for a new SL550? I am looking for a slightly used 2019 and have found a couple but am uncertain as to what discount I should be asking for. Congratulations on your new car. I used to own a 2009 SL550 and it was a great car with zero issues. My wife loved it and wasn't happy when I sold it.

I lost some negotiating power due to getting my car from another dealer through my dealer. The starting discount the dealer was offering on a Grand Edition they had in stock was $5000 below MSRP. This was a reasonable starting place in my opinion. I was willing to pay a little more to get exactly what I wanted and ended up at $3000 below MSRP on mine. The dealer covered the transportation costs for the car to be moved halfway across the country. They also covered a significant amount of my remaining lease payments, which is pretty standard. My deal was pretty complicated and I appreciate all the work they did to get me what I wanted. The first dealer that they approached with a si liar car was not willing to deal at all. I am actually happy that deal fell through and I got the car that I did.

I still need to take some pictures, but it’s been cloudy and the metallic white needs the sun to shine properly.

Thanks for your quick reply. Enjoy your awesome car and can't wait to see some pictures. I was thinking about 10% off a 2019 SL550 when I find one. At least that is what I'll start with. I'll let you know what it ends up being. Thanks again.

So far, it drives and handles exactly like my 2018 SL550 did. I haven’t noticed anything different in how it accelerates or rides.

The only “real” change seems to be that it now uses the Mercedes Me Connect app instead of the Mercedes Me app. The Connect version is leaps ahead of the Me app. As an example, I can now see the the air pressure in all four tires on my phone or the amount of gas in the tank. It’s kind of cool.

Congrats on your new ride! Beautiful car. We had the same interior on our iridium Silver SL but with Black Ash trim. Was just a joy...
Many happy miles!

A few more photos of the interior. The Dinamica headliner is a nice change from the beige plastic that was in my 2018.

Why? I follow several MB forums and have yet to read a single report about ABC problems on the R231! This model is now going on 10 years old.

Amazing! Do not ever get rid of that car. 2020 is the last of them.

That’s why I picked this one up. I loved my 2018, but wanted just a little more since I am planning on keeping this one.
