Can I Find the Perfect Exhaust?
Hi, I have always wanted more noise out of my SL. I did a resonator delete on my R230 SL550 and it was just a touch too quiet. What about removing the middle mufflers? Has anyone done that before? Any other info?



The attached pictures show the mufflers in question. The picture of the middle exhaust section shows the smaller resonators compared to the larger middle muffler.

also this video roll upto 11:15 and see what they have done to, very nice mod.might have done this had i seen this prior.

Yep - Facelifts have a big speaker in the boot/trunk....

However, I asked my wife to drive my car into our garage this week. I was wet and stiff from washing two cars. It was the first time I'd been outside my car and heard it run. The exhaust sounded fabulous.

The YouTube vids all make the 450 sound fantastic. The only one I've experienced in person was the one I drove and it wasn't running until I was inside driving it. Since I just left it in Comfort, well...

assuming you are referring the darkgray SL in the first video. that is an SL500 (550 to us) with an amg diffuser .

exhaust arrived today and immediately installed

cut before the h pipe rest goes on with sleeves and clamps. no welding necessary.

here are 2 quick videos. no drone at cruise speeds or loud exhaust note unless you step on it. perfect for my taste.

Perfect exhaust here. I prefer the factory sound. I think that AMG got it perfect on the SL55. Not sure how you would be able to recreate it on a R231, given the 55 is supercharged.

@AMG__POWER Did you ever sell your old mufflers? With everyone going aftermarket there's not much of a market for them.

I have a set of mufflers from my 2014 SL65 (also fits SL63) and am trying to figure out how to get rid of them. I suppose I may just recycle them.

2006 CLS55 AMG Sold 2010 E550 Coupe totaled by mechanic, '13 SL550 I totaled it, 2017 SL63 current
I removed the rear mufflers completely and replaced with straight pipes to the tips. Made a nice difference but still not loud in anyway. Had a little more rumble and turbo whistle, If I didn't total the car, I probably would have cut the resonators out as well.
