Drag Radials for R231 SL63 AMG

Been having a difficult time figuring out which Drag radials would work best for my SL 63. Seems like the smallest wheel I can go with that will clear the rear calipers are possibly 19”’s. Anyone have any input on what has worked for them? Thanks

Do you have any issues doing burnouts? What's your technique, if not?

Wait until he needs to rebuild a differential or transmission. $UPRI$E!!!
Best to keep American muscle in the garage for bouts of crazy burnouts and save the SL for adult driving pleasure.

I disagree. The SL63 is pretty damn close to a muscle car. Gobs of V8 power, RWD, and lots of weight. It's made to be driven fast and hard.
Let the man enjoy his car!

You missed my point, but that’s OK.

The title of this thread led me to believe we would be discussing activities down on Bourbon Street! 😊

I agree with you. The AMG was built to be used and is a lot stronger than most people realize

Geeze! Nobody gets the point! Blow up a differential on a 60’s muscle car, fix it for a few hundred bucks. Blow up your SL63 differential, go get a second mortgage!

If I didn't want the SL63 power, I'd have gotten a lesser model. If I don't use the power, I may as well have gotten a lesser model.

As it is, I'm modding the SL63 quite a bit for even more power, and crossing my fingers

There is actually a dedicated sub-forum for the SL63/65. Not heavily visited either due to the rarity of the car but definitely also another place to post...
https://mbworld.org/forums/sl63-amg-sl65-amg-r231-190/

AMG and non-AMG owners will often have different priorities. As for burnouts, that is something of zero value to me... I look for speed and traction to make sure that the car hooks up properly. Michelin is the best choice here. PS4s for best all around tire or the Sport Cup 2 for max performance. Only recommend in primarily dry climate though as they are not great in rain...
