outlet in passenger footwell

2015 sl400
in the passenger footwell just before the 12v outlet , there appears to be a small receptacle.
appears as though small phone jack would go in it.
I could not find it in the manual, and it was too specific to locate in a search.
Does anyone know what it is, and have you used it?

I may not have posted here before. But I have lurked some.
I have had my car for a little over a year.
Bought it with about 36k miles.
It is lunar blue with porcelain and black interior, napa leather, and the package that has adaptive cruise control
We live in the NC mountains near the VA border and spend the winters in Savannah, so we get a lot of use out of it. I love it and have had no problems or complaints.
I also put Magnus 21 spoke wheels and 18" tires on it.

Yes, A photo would help. Possibly something added that is not standard. None of my 2008, 2017 and current 2019 had/have such a fixture that I can remember.

Look like this?

And regarding the other post he didn't cut off the square plug. He cut off the USB end of and iPod cable and put an RJ-50 on the end of it. Effectively turning the phone cable into a music cable. I'm a fan. Actually I am handy with a crimper, so I'm totally going to do what he did.(copied from an old post

Previous jack in the center console used for a telephone link. Might have been modified, and moved next to the 12v outlet. My understanding is that it would have been done to play music via an apple device.
A pic would help. You might also check to see how it is wired behind the passenger well.

Question

As you can see, this "jack" is no that easily seen. I think it may be for the split screen DVD option. I am the second owner of the car. It did not come with a DVD remote as seen in the operator manual. But then again, that remote is listed for back seat entertainment system.
I have not found much information on the split screen DVD option and doubt I would ever use it anyway. The passenger can watch a DVD and enjoy the surround sound while the driver can look at the same screen and see the navigation information, simultaneously.
That's not strong enough to take the kindle and phone's draw away from my wife.

Look closely into the connector and I think you will see that it is the same as the end of the coax in the pic I sent you above. I read somewhere that it was a coax to an antenna. Note the "teeth" and white insulation on your port if you look closely.

Amateur radio user? Connect a portable radio to the jack. Make an adapter that goes to the telephone jack. Find the wire from the telephone jack to the car's telephone antenna. Splice a male telephone jack onto that wire and connect in to the adapter I've shown above. So the question is would it work? There would definitely be an impedance mismatch, but I guess as long as you got signal and a ground to the device some level of signal would get back to the phone antenna in the car. Do u have a phone connector built into ur center console?

Thanks for all the input.
I guess it is an add on. I thought the car was leased before I bought it. Of course, it still could have been modified. If so they did a very neat job.
I would have never seen it, but I was checking my in cabin air filter. I had a musty smell. I decided that was not the cabin air filter but the AC system. I ran the AC on high temp to clean out any mildew damp odors.

this is an interesting thread; I came to the forums just now to find my own thread about phone chargers (mine is plugged into that 12v outlet) but now I'm really curious (1) what someone would plug into that "custom" jack and (2) to see some pics of George Stancil's car!

I'll post some pics soon.
Just realized I don't have any. I literally have hundreds of pics of my other two seaters(previous).
Mazda miata convertible hardtop, dark blue/off white interior
Mini Cooper Roadster off white, saddle interior
Chey SSR red/ red black seats and interior

Here a few pics from the garage. I know it needs a bath. We were out at a park/golf course that is decorated for Christmas. Part of it was gravel roads, but here it is .

^ Like the wheels. I also have Mandrus (Millenium) wheels, which do accept OEM or "aftermarket" wheel center caps. The ones in the pic are from eBay (about $20 for all 4).

Here are mine:

My Mandrus Stirlings wouldn't take my old MB center caps but my understanding was that Mercedes changed them. They used to have a metal ring around them that made them a mm or two larger in circumference. When my OEM center caps from 2002 didn't fit I bought a set on eBay for $7.33!
