SL 500 roof pops up slightly in the sun
Hi Guys
Any help would be a great help.
When in the hot sun the front part of my roof lifts up slightly. I can push it down but it does not stay down. I have seen this happen on an silk I suppose it’s the same problem. Help Please.
Thanks

Do you mean the hardtop doesn't lock on the A-Pillar (above windshield)? Pictures will help. You might have to make a few more posts before the ability to post images. What year is the car?

Hi
Thanks for the welcome, the roof locks ok and looks fine. When the hot sun is on the car the left side of the roof at the front lifts slightly from the front part of the rubber. Next time it happens I will take a photo.

With the top retracted. Have a look at the top of the A-Pillar. There are two pan head torx bolts on top of that A-pillar. (see below)
If they are loose, the top of that A pillar can move around. There’s also a lip on a piece of rubber molding the pillar is supposed to butt up against, and fit slightly under. If it’s sitting on top of that lip, it will have a tendency to lift. You can compare to the other side that isn’t lifting for visual differences as far as how it’s supposed to fit under the lip. Those are pretty small bolts so don’t get too aggressive as far as tightening them. You can push down gently on the top of the pillar while tightening, to seat it.

You're in the 2013-up R231 forum. So you''d be better off posting in the r230 forum. That being said, I believe the 230 also uses a similar system fastening the A pillar. But the r230's have a different set of dynamics happening with it's Vario Roof. You'll want to post there, as there will be some people who may have experienced this behavior with their roof.
Make sure you specify if it's the A pillar or roof panel that is lifting. It will help
Good Luck!
