SL/R231: Please Post Pics of your Phone Mount Set Up THX
I use Proclip/Brodit for all my cars as it is OEM looking and fit and quality is great. But, for some odd reason they discontinued their mount for the R231 and all other SL cars. They still sell one for the 997 Porsches so not sure why I chose to discontinue it for the SLs. Now, I'm stuck with what to buy as my phone mount. I want to see the phone when I'm driving and would want something to look OEM.
Thanks in advance.
Scosche suction cup magnetic phone mount.
Apparently this is a redesigned newer version:

I bought this mount:
The base allows full maneuverability and is small enough to attach on the trim. However, the magnet holding the phone was weak. So, I removed the rubber insert where the phone attaches, bought a cheap MagSafe charger with a strong magnet (I was only interested in the magnet, not actually charging) and used epoxy to attach the magnet to the base.
It’s the perfect solution for me. Someone should manufacture it.

This mount uses double-sided tape to mount to the dash and is magnetic on phone side. The phone needs to have a flat metal ring stuck to the back of it. I was doubtful that the tape would hold, but it's good so far.

Make sure to follow the instructions to wait 24hours before using the mount. Also, the magnet is very strong. When I remove the phone from the mount I slide it off to minimize stress on the mount.

I liked the reviews and the price.
But I didn't want to glue it to any surface on the dashboard. I didn't want to damage it, so I thought of an alternative solution.
I noticed the dash clock was in a perfect position for the holder, and designed and 3D printed a cover that would serve as holding surface for the mount.
A simple cylindrical design that fits tightly, without damaging, the clock, slides into place and snugly stays in place, while providing the perfect surface for the mount.
Will come off without effort and no damage to the dasbhoard.
see pics for details.
This little device will fit perfectly over the clock and provide the flat surface required for the holder.

Thanks
Pete

That bottom expands into the cup holder via screw in, or loosen screw adjuster to contract- See last picture
I just stow it in the center console when I'm not using it....
Good Luck
