Paint Code for AMG Red Brake Calipers

Anyone have the paint code? Looking to bring my SL550 in to get the calipers painted next week and would like to provide as much info as possible to the shop. Thanks in advance!

Just go to Advance Auto (or your local parts store) and get red caliper paint. You don't need any special Mercedes paint. The results are based on the prep and application of the paint, not necessarily the three-pointed star on the can. Just make sure it's caliper paint. You could go with any color you'd like.

You might be able to get Mercedes Mars Red for cheap because it's guaranteed to flake and fade. Here's the paint code: 590U. (It's also called Fire Opal Red.)

(Before anyone tells me it's not the paint, but the clear coat, I already know. I just wanted to make the point that Mercedes brand isn't always the best. But it's always Mercedes!)

My totaled E550 coupe was Mars Red, had the car for 6yrs and had zero issues with the paint. I don't think MB actually makes the paint, so there might have just been a bad batch from whoever they source from.

Oh, yeah. I think it was really the clear coat that was the problem. There is a class action lawsuit against Mercedes because of it.

I am well aware of all of this, I owned a Mars Red E550 coupe. Not sure where you are going with all of this when I was simply asking for a paint code for the AMG red calipers...

I’ve never seen a paint code for those calipers. They are probably painted by Brembo.
The closest match I’ve seen is Porsche Guards Red. You’ll probably want some hi temp paint.

Good Luck

I would just get some red caliper paint. Or, reach out to one of the online touch-up paint companies and see if they can get you some high-temp or caliper paint in the color you want. These guys are pretty good at matching exact colors.

I am having my friends bodyshop take care of the calipers along with gloss black wrap on all chrome, lower middle front bumper, grill and changing emblems to gloss black as well. I have no doubt they will get a nice red high temp paint and clear as I am putting the Mecrcedes Benz high temp vinyl black stickers on the calipers as well. I am going to be putting the V8 Biturbo emblems on the fenders to see how I Iike them as I do not feel that is being a poser since that is what engine I have under the hood. Car is going in on Tuesday and should be done in two days. I'll post pics when completed. After that, muffler delete which I had done on my E550 and loved it. Depending on how loud it is, I might consider an aftermarket muffler.

Not sure what the cost of painting will be, but you could always opt for the real thing.

I see the correct AMG 6 piston front's come up on ebay, or even if you get them from the dealer.
Front AMG calipers are about $820ea from online Mercedes dealer, and the rears are about $600ea (with brackets). You'll need front and rear rotors too. but if your car needs a brake job, like mine did, then it makes even more sense...
Brembo front 390mm rotors are about $400 ea. and 360mm rears $120 ea. They are a bolt-on conversion everything else is the same....
Plus, you'll be assured they are painted properly.

AMG B06 Front and Rear Brakes.

Front AMG 6 piston Brembo Calipers and 2 piece Brembo 390mm Rotor

Rear AMG B06 360mm TRW Brakes

I am getting the job done fo $1k. Looks like roughly $4k for the conversion which at this point is not completely necessary. Maybe sometime in the future after I tune it I will consider this. I appreciate the input, those calipers are awesome.

No idea about the factory color code, but I am in the final stages of painting my MB calipers red. I purchased VHT red caliper paint, gloss clear, their high-temp primer and their caliper prep. I tried it on a piece of aluminum I had laying around and I hated it. The color is called 'Real Red' and it is NOT the color of the AMG brake calipers. It is very dark, more like the red of Ferrari race cars from the 50's. I then tried the Dupli-color red caliper paint and although it is a little lighter, it wasn't right either. It looked like brick red. So, for my third attempt, I tried the Rust-oleum Gloss Red engine paint. Like the Dupli-color paint, it is a ceramic coating and the Rust-oleum has a higher temp rating than the Dupli-color caliper paint. Bingo - that is the red I was looking for. As a bonus, the Rust-oleum is the easiest to use high temp paint I have ever dealt with. I have used VHT high temp paint for nearly 50 years. It has always been my go-to for high temp applications, but no more. Assuming that it holds up like I expect it will, the Rust-oleum paint has won me over. Pics to come.

I got my calipers painted over a year ago as this thread is from '22. You can see the results in this thread
