Grille star pushed in; how to pop it back into position??

So I just noticed the MB star in my grille is pushed in a bit:

I was hoping I could open the hood, reach down and push it back into place, but that ain't happening. Anyone know how much of this I have to remove to get my hand behind the griolle?

The distronic star needs to be removed from the grille to push the back. It’s kind of a pain to remove….
Lift one corner, and twist it counter clock wise.

This may help:
https://mbworld.org/forums/cl-class-...012-cl550.html

If you don’t want to remove it, you could always try an industrial suction cup to pull it carefully (you don’t want to break the grille)
Here’s a pic below of the clips that hold the star onto the grille.

So the star comes out toward the front?

Yes, they are two pieces but come out as one assembly forward towards the front of the car.

I wonder if I can just coax the bottom forward and back into place.

I would try to pull it with a suction cup (see pic). It might be hard to get any place to pull that back plate forward.
Good Luck.

@crconsulting is correct it comes out the front with a twist. On my car i usually reach in and grab the back and apply pressure on both sides while turning.

Never seen one pushed in like that.

My grill from inside the hood.

Hope your distronic is not impacted. I tapped my nose in a parking lot at about 2mph. $1700 repair. No damage was visible.

Okay, suction didn't work, the star won't budge. There are three parts here: the "glass" star, the "chrome" trim ring, and the matte silver grille fin piece. I feel like I can pull the chrome trim forward, but I don't want to go so far as to remove it as I don't know whether that'll help me (or I'll break it). The matte piece feels like it's too far forward; I can fell a gap on the bottom between it and the black part of the grille, but I can't seem to push it back into place.

Bummer the suction cup wouldn’t work for you…
I can tell you that Distronic star is a pain to grab onto.
The “normal” star is easier to remove because you can grab it to pull while you twist.
Every time I’ve had to remove the Distronic stars it seems like I am about to rip the grille off right before it releases. It helps to use a plastic pry tool at the bottom while twisting.
Once you’ve done a couple it gets somewhat easier (which won’t help at the moment). But it’s never a breeze. 😕

Good Luck.

so wait, does the Distronic star come out just like the normal one, quarter turn to the left and pull? if so, I might try that with the suction.

Yes, the same way. See pics. I posted above for the location of the tabs that hold it down.
Those suction cups come in different sizes (and quality) too…

Good Luck.
