Help! Service required, do not shift grears, Visit Dealer
Got a warning when I stopped for gas and restarted the car. The car was driving fine. It allowed me to put in drive, I drove it to a mall, turned off, when I turned it back on, no warning so thatwas good. But... after I slept the night in the morning the same warning and this time I could not put it in any gear.
Called MB, service man said it might be the secondary battery, they sent out MB road side service. They said there was no secondary battery, just the one.. and it was fine. He had no idea why it would not go in gear. Tried taking battery terminal off and putting it back on, no go.
It starts, but will not go in gear.
Any ideas why?

Another odd gremlin, while I opened and locked it many times waiting for the tow truck, one time the windows rolled down when I unlocked. Never done that before.
Any way to get it in gear and bypass the warning lock?
Any help is appreciated.. currently waiting for the third tow truck driver to attempt to tow it to MB, first one didnt have wheel dollies, second didnt have a tow hook for the bumper and I do not know where mine is.

Get yourself one of these! It's small and fits nicely in the little storage behind the driver's seat. EVERY Mercedes owner should have one of these in their car all the time (or an equivalent scan tool). You would at least know what is causing the problem and maybe be able to temporarily (or permanently) "fix" the problem. Make sure you get V3.0!
You're second battery is behind the passenger seat and the window function is normal. Push and hold the keyfob button to unlock and roll down windows. Same when locking. Push and hold.

However, holding the open or close button will cause the roof to open or close before the windows are all the way opened or closed. I think this problem is more related to the battery. It's crazy and unacceptable that roadside assistance did not know about the secondary battery.
This is a standard option in all SL's called Comfort closing/opening. But its infrared and short distance unlike the RF remote. If memory serves, point the remote at the driver-side door handle and the rearview mirror within 3 feet or so...
It must be different for years, or something. My windows will go down only if the trunk access hatch is not in its locked position.(up) If it is in its locked position(down) my roof will go down if I push and hold the unlock button on the key fob. I am going to lunch in a few minutes so I am going to try this once more. I have tried multiple times in the past.

The comfort opening works the same as opening the roof normally. If the internal trunk cover is not down (or present), the roof can't be opened anyway. Comfort opening also activates the ventilation for the car and seats...
The only difference between model years is that the internal trunk cover closes automatically on the facelift models.
Not to hijack the thread, but I must not be explaining it correctly, or understanding your point.
How do you put the windows down with the key without putting the top down? I just tested it and pointed my key directly at the drivers door handle. The top started to go down, but I stopped it.
Edit. Nevermind, I was rushing to pick up my lunch and didn’t understand. Now I see that we are saying the same thing. To put the windows down by remote, without putting the roof down the truck cover has to be up.
