Pano Sun Shade Won't Retract

I have searched but found little to nothing on this issue: the sunshade on the pano roof fails to retract. Does anyone have a solution to this or even maybe experienced the same thing? (I find it hard to accept one other person and I am the only ones to've encountered this. )

Many thanks!

Is the headliner removable? I have the magic roof (or whatever it's called), so I don't have a sun shade.

I haven’t seen where/why they are failing on the R231. Have yet to work on one that’s failed. On some MB models, the blind comes off the rails due to a wheel failure. Funny thing is, I don’t even see a section on R&R of the roller sun blind in the WIS. Typically in the 77.21 area of the WIS. Maybe it’s buried somewhere else….

Only good news is the part isn’t too expensive part # 2318100000-649h88 about $350.00

Good Luck.

I'm completely embarrassed to say I had no idea we had a sun shade in this car...

Not all SL’s have them. Cars with the Magic Sky Control option don’t have a roller sun blind.

I just never close mine...I never did on my 991 either. Keeps the interior "airy" I guess. And sometimes hot!

Good Luck.
Thank you! The part number alone was a very valuable piece of info ...

Not "too expensive"! LOL Yeah, we're conditioned well by the dealerships. It's a plastic frame and cheapo cloth blind. Still, I found it for an even "cheaper" price of $324.

Any ideas on how easy it is to disassemble (and replace) the Designo Dynamic Microfibre (!) roof headliner?

TIA!

These videos always seem to simplify some steps but looks like the cover may just pull off. (1:26)
You should then be able to access the roller blind mechanism. Though I remember something about having to put the roof in service position (partially open).

Thank you! That confirms what I hoped. I'll give it a shot and see if I can repair what's there before ordering and replace the thing.
