How to "teach-in" my new TPMS sensors?

New wheels w/new tpms sensors being installed next Mon at a local indy garage. My car is a 2018 SL550. Will my car auto learn them or will they have to use a special tool for learn-in? They are the brand offered by Alloy Wheels Direct as an accessory when I selected the oem wheels.

Car will auto learn. When I got new AM wheels and new tires, new sensors were installed by the wheel shop. The car picked up the new sensors within a mile of driving with the new wheels.

I suggest, after installing the new wheels, inflate the tyres to proper pressures (when cold) and then you manually set those values as 'reference(default)'. Or, maybe, your local indy garage has done this for you.

Thanks, that's a bit of a relief. This shop does all sorts of cars, so they're not a special marque kind of biz. I'm using them instead of my usual specialty german car shop because they're nice and close and have a stellar reputation. Plus, I have used them before.

Bishop64 is spot on. I just had new tires and TPS installed and my TPMS would not reset. The next morning I checked the inflation when they were stone cold and all 4 were inflated to the wrong pressure. In fact they were all reading differently. I inflated them to the recommended setting and reset the TPMS. I then drove it a few miles and the pressures displayed and the warning light went away.

Over the yrs, I've found that tire install guys get the PSI correct about 1/2 the time at best, the rest, they're either a little off or insanely Wonder why yours wouldn't reset at installation, but did the next day. Do you why that happened?

I'm pretty sure the TPMS has to be within the correct pressures as indicated on the inside of the fuel cap. I do not think it will accept a default with different pressure settings for each tire. Also the tires should be cold when the correct pressure is set. All 4 of my tire pressures were set different (12 lbs gap from highest to lowest and only 1 near the correct pressure).

My new wheels were spot on air wise, so likely that’s why everything synced up quickly.
