Feel a thud while parked

What is happening when I feel a jerk or jolt while I'm parked with engine running for 4-5 mins? So many times I think I've been hit from behind. (this is my 1st Mercedes)

I don't know what it is but, it happens to me too and it did it in my E class.

Very common, sounds like it might be the parking brake engaging after idling for a while.

That's what I thought, but, if it's the E brake engaging, why don't I have to disengage it when I take it out of park?

Do you hear anything when you put it out of park, it disengages itself if your seatbelt is on.

I don't think it's the parking brake. The first time I felt it I thought someone hit the car.

Hard to tell but, sounds like a torque converter issue.
is the car in Park or in Drive?
Have any codes read with XENTRY if you can….

I’ve noticed the same thing in my wife’s 2019 C300. I waited in the car with it running recently while she went into a grocery for about 10 min. and it felt like someone bumped into the rear end. I was willing to write it off as a one time anomaly but the same thing happened a week or so later. Very disconcerting, especially after our experience with her first MB:

I convinced her to sell her ‘boxy’ looking 2002 BMW for something with a little style, a new 2012 E320. She drove it like you would expect a wife to drive, which is to say no undue stress on either engine or transmission, for about 21k mi. and all scheduled maintenance was done on time. The transmission started slipping on gear changes, subtly at first and then more noticeably, and on inspection at the dealer they found metal parts in the fluid. No car should have a transmission eat itself after 21k miles, especially not a Mercedes E Class.
