Filled up the tank Sat, but the gauge is stuck where it was at about 1/4 tank. I left the ignition on (not accessory) to hear a radio show I was listening to. Any ideas what's going on?
Does it drop to below the “E” (empty) position when you turn OFF ignition? Or does the gauge never move?
Are you able to get the car scanned for codes? Does the car have any codes?

Taking it in next wk for its 60k svc. They're going to diagnose. Don't know it if drops below E when turned off, *but*, today, the needle has creeped up a little. It was sitting at 40 mi remaining, but now it's at 67. Weird.

The gauge should move to the empty position when you turn off the car. There are three main components to that system: gauge, sending unit, and wiring in between.
If the gauge doesn’t move at all, it’s typically the gauge. If it moves when you turn off the car, it’s typically NOT the gauge.

Ok, the gauge does move to empty when car turned off. Here's a new wrinkle. The range has been increasing by 10-20 miles every time I drive it. Started at a range of 40 on reserve after refilling, and now is at 120 after driving 4 trips of only about 40 miles, any ideas with this new info?

I had the same thing happen on my previous SLK. . the fix was to run a couple of tanks with Chevron techron fuel system cleaner. . the explanation was that the sender windings in the tank accumulate a coating from years of gasoline. . Worked for me but took 2 tanks before it was reading accurately at all fuel levels. or you can have the sender changed. .

Good Tip.
Definitely worth a shot! I always like trying a "free" repair first...
I’d bet it’s the wiring but could be that delicate looking sending unit.
You’ll need to drop the gas tank though. 🙁
Good Luck.
Thanks for the info. Sure don't want to drop the gas tank unless necessary! Going in for 60k svc on Thurs, so we'll see what they say re codes/diagnosis.

Good tip. Have a couple bottle left over from previous cars, so will give that a try.
Update! the suggestion of running a bottle (or 2) of Techron did the trick! The fuel gauge started working again after the 1st bottle, but did a 2nd bottle of it for good measure. Thanks for the tip!
