So, We moved to Mississippi....need some paintwork done!

Hello folks,

Wife and I have relocated from PA to MS to help out her father, who is in questionable heath these days and needs some care...

We have taken over his house (sadly, only a carport and a small stretch of unpaved road...not great for a black car!) Anyway, there are various blemishes, etc. as well as a decent, but not awesome repaint on the front and rear from the PO that needs attention... Is there anyone in the Laurel/Jackson/Tuscaloosa area that can point me toward a decent paintwork person?

Thanks in advance!

John

Do you plan to use the carport? If not, use a windshield screen to protect the dash. They are prone to damage from excess heat especially a black car.

Yep, it’s in the carport, along with the GLB. Darn cat keeps walking on it, though…grrr.

I dust it daily, but am limited in my car washing opportunities…took it to a car wash in Laurel in desperation and I’m pretty sure that’s not helping any of the paint issues. Need to get it fixed.

My guess would be to look in Jackson first maybe ask the MB Dealership there
Also check out Hattiesburg just south of Laurel and I figure they should have some decent body shops..

Lots of people in MS with muscle cars and other types of Hot rods so someone is painting them and probably not far from you.

Maybe go to the CRUISIN THE COAST and ask around as those are peeps who know great body shops and you can see their work on the rides parked all over the area.
Plus it is a great drive on the MS highways which I find pristine and well taken care of for most part due to Casino money.

As an FYI: Other MS dealer who I have gone to for work is i Gulfport - MB of Southern MS - Owned by family that has been in Car business forever with all sorts of brands.
They treat me nicely and have good pricing - They will even price match on tires if you like to haggle a bit.

If you feel like driving 2-3 hours south.

Mississippi, huh? Maybe get the car painted camo? Maybe in a Mossy Oak pattern?

First of all, kudos to you and your wife John. Second, welcome to the "no garage" club; if I could have a do-over I'd very likely rethink black. What does "from the PO" refer to (seems to be a daily occurrence that I'm mystified by an acronym or abbreviation)? Lastly, I finally bit the bullet and got my hood repainted. When I bought my SL used in 2019 the hood and nose had been repainted badly; I still kick myself for not realizing before purchase. So, five years later, having added plenty of bumper scrapes and chips myself, the paintwork cost me $2500+.

I, too, moved from PA to Mississippi some time ago. I have a Designo Mocha Black SL and, between the pollen and the dusty roads, it's hard to keep clean. Not sure how far you want to travel but there's a paint shop about two hours north of you that also specializes in restoring classic cars. They have an excellent reputation for their work. I've attached a link to their website. It's very basic but has their contact information.

Auto Body Shop and Tow Service | Bob's Paint & Auto Body (bobspaintandautobody.com)

Welcome to the Magnolia State! There are lots of things about living here that are frustrating but there are also many, many reasons you'll find to stay awhile. Drop top weather in November is one of them but don't plan on much convertible driving in August...your face will melt.

Good luck!

Thanks all for the well wishes and information! Eddie, PO is for “previous owner”…sorry for an unknown acronym! 😀

Rear bumper and drivers door at a minimum need to be done for sure. I’ll start tracking these people down. We have been here about a month and are still….adjusting. My wife grew up here in the 80s…I’m from Chicago originally and am a “damn yankee”, so this area is quite a change, but it’s all for the greater good. In the meantime, I got laid off so I’m on temporary “retirement” until we get more settled.

I may wait a bit to see if we get a door for the carport before I get some work done.

Thanks again guys!

John
