SL/R231: Installing a new starter battery.

2003 sl500
Installing a new starter battery.
Hi All, If I replace the starter battery with a new MB battery do I need to disconnect the consumer battery first and then reconnect the consummer battery after installing the new starter battery? thanks

Do you mean the small auxiliary battery behind the passenger seat?

no, the starter battery is located in the engine comparment by the firewall on the passenger side and the consumer battery in the trunk.

Think you have a R230, as the R231 (this section of the forum) didn't have batteries like that. Try asking on the R230 section?

To answer your question, is it probably a good idea to disconnect the consumer battery. Read the attached document. It talks about connecting the starter before the service (consumer) battery. You can assume that it is OK, if not recommended, to disconnect the consumer battery when replacing the starter battery.
