Help! 2013 R231, Will not go into park when I stop. Have to turn it off in while drive, it then goes to N, then I can turn it back on and put it in park... finally. It does not happen all the time, just every once in a while.Someone said it might be a sensor by the brake peddle, and suggested a slam down on the peddle a few times to see if it helps. It did... it stopped the issue for a few months, or at least it seems to have helped for a few months. Today its back with a vengeance.
Anyone have that issue? Know what is causing it?
If it is a sensor by he brake peddle, can you let me know what the part number is? How to replace? any video out there on it?
Thanks in advance!

They must be talking about the brake light switch. Search YouTube for how to replace it.

Do your brake lights work? If so then it's probably not that sensor. Originally Posted by renewgeorgia

Another possibility is the auxiliary battery. It's used to power the shifter so that the car can be put in neutral when the main battery is dead.

He has a 2013. Do all R231s have the electronic shifter, or did earlier ones have the mechanical shifter? My 2014 C350 has a mechanical shifter.

Does it go into park if you use the brake hold feature and then turn off? Mine stays in neutral if my foot is on the brake, but shifts to park if brake hold is on.
Hi Everyone, its an electronic shifter. Previously had the TCM replaced. Before a mechanic said there is some sensor to determine if the brake is on or not, and if it is not working properly it will not let you shift into park. I was told basically to slam on the brake peddle a few times to see if that helped and it seemedto help for a few months.
So My hope is its a sensor that is on the peddle and should be easy to fix.
The brake lights go on, its not that sensor.
Anyone, any mechanic have an idea what it might be?

I do not know what the issue is, however the next time the car doesn’t go into park via the P button simply open the drivers door and the car will auto go into park. Much easier than what you have been doing until you can get the repair completed.
Keep us updated on the cause of your issue.

I know that when the car is moving, you cannot put it in Park. When accidentally hitting the Park button while driving, a warning pops up telling me I have to be stopped to put it in Park. I think hooking up a scanner, like XENTRY or LAUNCH, and looking at the live data might help. I would look at the tire speed and requested transmission gear when trying to put it in Park.

Any updates on this?? My car just started doing this exact same thing. One thing I have also noticed when I am in drive, and I try to put it in park and it doesn't go... It then will also not go into neutral or reverse at that point. However, if I am driving it will go into neutral or reverse at any time without any issues. It's not until I press "P" and then I can't change anything at all.
thoughts??

You should scan the TCU (and actually the entire car) with a proper Mercedes scan tool. The symptoms you describe could be damaging or dangerous. You do not want to put the car in Reverse if you are moving forward.Originally Posted by Turbosnake
