The trunk finally looks to be normal without the hump. While still having some fake shapes underneath the camo, I find the design rather pleasing and given the seat position it appears to be a 2 seater (maybe with fake rear seats as the SL had in the past rather than a real 2+2).
I am curious about the interior as well but at least it will be technically up-to-date.
I think its going to be a very good car, I just hope they don't screw up the interior. Especially if they're trying to preserve and/or promote the SL "heritage".
Interesting that the Canvas top is back - I wonder whether it will be in production -
Having had 2 r129's and now a r231 I am not sure which I prefer - Canvas or Hard
The Canvas plastic window was awful and was not very clear almost immediately. But having a big trunk and a spare was nice.
I just got the 2013 so I am not sure about the top since it is 9 degrees F here in Colorado right now and I got it in mid January. Also the top is frighteningly expensive if anything ever happens to it.

Mercedes got rid of these idiotic plastic windows with the R129. All MB soft tops have glass windows. So easy care but still more delicate than a hard top.
As for your new SL I am not sure what you are concerned about in the winter. Nothing will break and I assume you are not planning to go top down
Glad to see the plastic gone - after 20 years the canvas still looked great but the plastic was shot in about 2.
Right now there is snow on the road and it will be about 12 tonight - although the land of 10k lakes is probably colder.
Actually I am letting it sit for 10 days in the Garage for the Ceramic coats to cure.
Continental told me the stock tires are not advised under 45 degrees, but I am really not too concerned - although I was surprised they were rated like that.
I just look at the lines / wheelbase / trunk / hood / top and visualize an awful lot of similarities to the current BMW Z4: that just looks more like the proportions of the R232; will be interested to see wheelbase / width / etc., when it's introduced.
Z4 scrambled; R232 scrambled; note extra window behind main driver side window; unlike Z4

Sorry, these two cars look nothing alike besides having a soft top. The camo covers all contours and the rear desk bump on theBMW is an adjustable spoiler on the MB. From the looks of it, the cars stays rather close to the current AMG GT (but shorter hood, larger cabin)...

Agree I'm not seeing any similarities besides the two being long-nosed roadsters. If anything, when the Z4 was revealed, many people on Bimmerpost said it took some design cues (mainly the headlights) from the SLK.
I think it looks great so far, definitely very curious to see the true sheet metal. This should be a nice and more luxurious counterpart to the upcoming GT. I haven't been too interested in the SL for years but so far this generation has me pretty excited, especially the fact that it will be produced by AMG.
I hope they don't stick a gigantic touch screen on the dash, but actually incorporate into the flow of the dash,
Have you seen the touch screen in the new electric mustang? I must be close to 14x10 inches and looks like an add on.

It will have a center screen setup similar to the W223 and W206.
