I was talking to my dealer about 2 hours ago and they said the system just updated and their demo was now saying, released to carrier (I think that’s what they called it). They were shocked that it just changed.
Anyway they now expected it anytime. Just my luck too since I’m leaving for vacation next week!

Maybe they are being released to AMG specialized dealers first?

I was on the order list for a 2022, then when I saw the delays I decided to be #1 on the 2023 list, once the 2023 DOG comes out. Hopefully I will have my car by December/January. Who knows?

Hello all, new here but I have been lurking for a while. My dealer informed me today that mine is still on delay with MB. I had their first allocation but they had a few. I think the delay, as far as I can see (or at least with my car), is the upgraded sound system. The only difference between the one he offered me today and mine is the upgraded sound and a different shade of Grey. Hopefully it comes soon.

Can somebody please explain to me how it is possible that cars that were specifically ordered in November/December of 2021 and were built in April of 2022 are not the first ones to arrive? Instead, it appears cars are showing up not ordered by anyone but available to be sold to first come.

Is MB making fun of its most loyal customers ? I simply don't get it and I am really ticked!

^ There were some cars built before April. The cars advertised were either orphaned or ordered for dealer stock.

Also there were some cars that are still being held in Germany port to shipping delays. Maybe it’s a bit of shipping logistic snafu going on as well?

Nobody should pay over list yet expect every car to move quickly and with ADM (perhaps besides customer orders). Our local dealer sold the car right away with markup.

That said, buyers of those are not suckers; they simply don't care about depreciation or markups. It's the price to have something without waiting or having it first. In most cases these are outright purchases anyway...

Looked at the SL63 in St. Louis today and it’s still available at sticker. $197,585.00 Alpine Grey with black interior and top. Apparently it was another dealers order but wholesaled it for whatever reason. Possibly a small dealer that just doesn’t have $200k to put in an unsold car or a market that it would just sit. Regardless, I found it to be a lot tighter in the interior than expected and not really much roomier than a GT C. Biggest turn off is the super small trunk that I doubt would hold one set of golf clubs. Will verify this in a couple of days. Also seemed to be much taller than my SL550. Probably not but the black windshield surround and fabric top just makes it look top heavy to me.

Was also told that if I wanted to order a ‘23 SL55, it would likely be March of ‘23 before they would get another customizable allocation with delivery sometime next summer. Not sure if I want to wait that long or if I should just start the search for a low mileage 2020.

If anyone is interested in the Alpine Grey SL63, call Tom Gibson at Plaza Mercedes, 314-330-1698, and tell him Steve sent you.😀

Other interesting note is that they have a special order SL55 coming that shows built but not on a boat yet with the Machiato interior. Everyone on here has said that’s not possible and that color is not on the current configurator. Hope ir shows up that way as the buyer should have a fairly rare car.

MB Fletcher jones has (Had?) an SL55 (early vin - 13XX) with the STYLE Machiatto interior, and MBRVC has one coming in with a much more recent build (6XXX) with the STYLE Tartufo interior.

My April built 63 is still in Germany with a B5C delay code, and if I remember correctly there are a number of forum members in the same boat.

Below are the MB built codes:

A4 Final Supplier Order/Scheduled Not Produced
B0 19 Days to Production
B1 13 Days to Production
B3 NO CHANGES POSSIBLE
B4 2 Days to Completion
B5 Production Complete
B7 At Port/Ready To Be Shipped
B8 Assigned to Ship
C1 Ship Departed
C2 Ship Notification/On Water
CS Submitted to Customs
C3 Cleared Customs
C4 At Port
D1 VPC Processing
D2 Surveyed at VPC
D3 Potential Delay
D4 Ready to Deliver
D5 Released to Carrier
D9 Wholesale/Consignment Pending
F1 Wholesaled and Invoiced
I1 Retail

So, if I have got this right, the cars are complete and built but the issue is no shipping code has yet to be
assigned and therefore I have to assume that the very best scenario ( at least for me) is the middle to end of September.

Also, my dealer has allocations for 2022 cars to be built until the end of October. That of course means if you place an order any time soon, you will absolutely get a 2022 even if this potentially means 2023 delivery. They have not received any 2023 allocations yet.

To say that I am entirely fed up and disappointed with MB would be quite the understatement.

My 63 is supposed to be completed on the 11th; finally got the VIN and build sheet from the dealer; at least the build doesn't show any changes from the original order for what that's worth

I would not take a 2022 model this late ot over MSRP... or even AT MSRP. I cannot believe people can get treated like they do and just stay the course. If I wanted one that bad, I would wait for the 2023 or 2024.

I guess I don't fit their market type.... I would tell them to go %$#@ themselves. I mean ---- YOU are the buyer/customer and should receive respect and honesty. I have NEVER bought anything anywhere and been treated like this. Have some pride and self respect.

The latest I heard from my dealer (Friday 8/5) was that the cars at both ports (Bremen as well as the VPC) had been sitting so long that they have to be "re-certified" before they are released. I'm #1 on my dealer's list for a 2023 order so as soon as the DOG is issued I'll complete my order. It will be interesting to see how this plays out...

Starting to see some new SL55’s on Autotrader with Machiato interiors so I assume they were early builds prior to that interior color being pulled from the DOG. Curious how many will end up showing up and when the Machiato will be added back in as an option?

My dealer in Plano, TX has received five SL55's so far. All are customer orders, but they have on on their floor that hasn't been picked up yet. So I went in today, took a look around it from every angle, fired up the engine, and sat in it. Gorgeous vehicle that looks better in person than the web, at least in my opinion. They are not selling above MSRP, at least at this dealership. My SL63, which is configured in Cirrus Silver and black interior, stickers at $190,535. The gas guzzler tax of $1300 is included. Mine has been "released to carrier" as of yesterday. It should be here within the next couple of weeks assuming they can get a truck lined up and get it on the road.

Agree that you can't get golf clubs in the trunk, but they will fit in the small back seat, fwiw.

Was able to quickly stop and check out the exterior of an SL63 today. Even in a boring Black/Black spec, this car looks spectacular. Easily the best looking SL in years, especially compared to the ungainly R231. The last SL I really loved was the 90's R129 (I have always despised the design of the hardtop of the R230/231). Cannot wait for my local dealer to get a few units in actual colors so I can fully check them out.
