Took Delivery of my new SL63. First impressions
After 11 months of waiting, my SL63 finally arrived in the Dallas area and I took delivery Friday night. The dealer tried, at the last minute, to slip in a $25K "Market Adjustment" but I flatly refused and they knew I was pissed off about it. They backed off and I got it at MSRP. So now I've had it a couple of days and had the chance to take it on the Tollway this morning and get it up above 85 MPH. Here are my first impressions:
In the garage next to its GLS63 big brother.
- Beautiful vehicle. Absolutely stunning and it actually looks better in person than on the web. My neighbor drives a Bentley and he couldn't believe how nice this car looks. He is now considering trading for one at some point.
- Quiet ride inside with the top up. Quieter than expected. Didn't get it up above 50 mph with the top down but it was certainly not bad.
- Lots of power and torque, as expected. Really zips.
- Engine has a very nice note. It's noticeably louder than in my GLS63 AMG, but in a good way. And of course with the knob on the lower left of the steering wheel you can open up the baffles to make it sound even more powerful.
- The center iPad type controller is controversial, but when you sit in the driver's seat you don't really notice that it is not attached to the dash. It actually seems very intuitively placed with easy to reach buttons and touch screen display. The tilt feature is a very nice feature with the top down - takes the glare off the screen. If the screen were across the dash with the sun hitting it there would be a challenge with the glare. Again, the controller looks worse when you're outside the vehicle vs. actually sitting in it and using it.
- Because I have a similar MBUX system in my 2021 GLS, the learning curve for me was very easy. But still have to play around with it and learn a few new features and wrinkles. Lots of tech.
- Top goes up and down with ease. The graphic on the display showing the status is actually perfectly timed with what is actually happening with the top.
- Burmeister sound system is awesome.
- Trunk is tiny. I have a foldable powered trolley for golf and I really thought I'd be able to fit it in there. But I can't. Golf clubs will fit in the tiny tiny back seat, but there is no hope of getting them in the small trunk.
- A few pictures are attached.
- More later when I get a chance.

Congratulations and many happy miles! Thank you for the write-up. Did you replace another car with this one? If so, what? Enjoy!

Beautiful color combination. Very nice looking exterior.
I am a sucker for silver exterior and black interior. My Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited was that combo and my present Expedition is that combo. I love it.
I am very jealous of the sound system.
